Practicing for the School Choir

Lucas

Joining the choir was amazing, but it was hard work. We spent two hours singing every Tuesday. By the time I got home, I had absolutely no energy left and usually went straight to bed! A week before the concert, my throat hurt and I could only speak very quietly. I was worried I couldn’t perform, but drinking warm tea helped. My sister came to watch the final show. We all needed black trousers and white shirts for the concert. I just wore my old school shirt, so I didn’t spend any money.

Chloe

I never thought about joining the choir, but Mr. Harris, who teaches us music, told me I sounded great and asked me to become a member. I was too frightened to stand up and sing without the group, so I stayed at the back. We had to wear completely dark clothes for the performance. I didn’t have anything right, so I used my own money to get a black dress from a clothes shop. To remember all the songs, I sat in the living room and sang with my mum every evening.

Ethan

We had to learn ten different pieces of music for the winter concert. The choir teacher gave us all a CD with the songs. I put the tracks on my phone and listened to them on the bus every morning. It was the best way to remember the words during my trip to school! The most exciting part of the evening was when the music stopped, and everyone else was quiet. I sang one whole song by myself! I wasn’t nervous at all, and I never felt sleepy after our long practice times.

The Lunchtime Rush

Leo

It is always a crazy race when the midday bell rings. Standing in the line for hot dishes takes forever, so I run straight to the dining hall. Luckily, my mate always puts his bag on a chair for me before I arrive. We don’t get the greatest spot, though. Our table is right by the washing area where everyone drops their used bowls and forks. It can smell a bit! I usually buy a cold sandwich, but sometimes I wish my parents packed me a lunch because I get so hungry.

Mia

The school canteen is incredibly crowded and everyone speaks with loud voices. I hate that, so I always walk to the corner that is far away from the noise. I love sitting there because I can watch the trees and the sports field through the large glass. I don’t have anyone to hold a place for me, so I just walk fast. I usually buy a cooked dinner. The queue is quite big, but I chat with my friends while I wait, so it doesn’t feel like a long time at all.

Noah

I never worry about getting a fantastic seat. On Fridays, my maths teacher lets us go out five minutes early, so we easily beat the crowd! We always run to the middle tables. We don’t sit by the windows because the sun makes us too warm. Also, my dad makes my sandwiches every morning and puts them in my backpack. That means I don’t need to stand with everyone to get anything. I can sit down and start eating immediately! When we finish, we just put our rubbish in the bins.

Attending an After-School Math Club

Leo

I stay at school on Tuesdays for the math club. We have been in class all day, so I usually have zero energy left when it begins! I often forget to bring a sandwich, so I am hungry too. However, the teacher makes it fun. We use tablets to solve digital number quizzes, which is my favorite activity. I am not taking any big tests this year, but the club still helps me understand what we learn in normal lessons.

Maria

Math is my weakest subject, so I am really worried about the end-of-year assessment. To get better marks, I go to the extra classes on Thursdays. I never walk there alone; my best mate always comes with me. We don’t play online games because I think they are boring. Instead, the boys and girls from the highest class come to assist us. They explain difficult things very clearly! I will definitely continue going to this club next year.

David

The after-school math club is brilliant, but it finishes very late. To make sure I am not sleepy, I always eat an apple and some biscuits at 3:15 p.m. It gives me a lot of energy! I don’t ask the older kids for advice because our lovely teacher, Mr. Jones, sits with me. He makes numbers easy to understand. I am getting excellent grades now. Because I don’t need extra support anymore, my final day at the club is next week.
