Cleaning the Classroom
Ryan
On Friday, my group had to tidy the classroom. We started immediately because we didn’t want to be there all evening. I told the others to turn on the radio on a phone because it makes the job much more fun. While I was sweeping under the teacher’s desk, I saw my favourite blue pen on the floor. I thought I lost it last month! One of my friends brought his own brush, but it broke. We worked hard, but it actually took a very long time to finish.
Megan
There were three of us cleaning the science room. Our teacher didn’t give us enough cloths for washing the desks, so I carried some sponges and soap in my bag from my kitchen. We didn’t play any songs because we just wanted to speak to each other. I thought we would be there for two hours because the room was really dirty. Amazingly, we were ready to go home in just forty-five minutes! Everyone washed and cleaned together perfectly. We didn’t find anything exciting, just lots of old paper.
Pablo
Cleaning the art room was quite difficult. The teacher wanted me to wash the windows. I always try to avoid that job at my house because I completely dislike it, but I had to do it anyway! The real problem was my classmate, David. He just sat on a chair and looked at his phone instead of helping us with the mess. We had to use the school’s cleaning things because we didn’t have our own. At the end, our teacher was so pleased with the shiny room that she bought us some chocolate!

Morning Assembly News
Alex
We have to go to the hall before our first lesson. I’m usually still sleepy at that time! The headteacher always shares important dates, but the sound system is terrible. I can’t catch her words clearly from the back of the room. Sometimes I completely miss the information. The best part of the meeting is sharing a bench with teenagers I don’t usually study with. It’s a fun chance to chat with them. Yesterday she talked about a past trip, but I didn’t understand the details.
Sarah
Our headteacher told me to go on the stage today. I had to read my winning poem to hundreds of teenagers and teachers. I was very nervous but everyone clapped! Usually I arrive at the meeting with plenty of time, but my dad’s car broke down this morning. Because of that, I walked through the doors ten minutes after it began. I sat next to my best buddy and I heard the headteacher perfectly because we were standing right at the front.
Jason
I really enjoy the morning meetings at 8:00 AM. Today, our headteacher announced that builders will fix the old sports room. They are putting in huge windows, which is fantastic because it’s very dark in there right now. She also told us we are going to travel to the city zoo next month. I can’t wait to see the wild animals! She talked for a long time, but her voice was loud and clear. We always sit with our own class, so I just joked with my usual friends.

Helping a Friend After a Bad Grade
Leo
When my classmate is sad about a terrible test result, I try to make them feel positive again. I am not very clever at maths or science, so I can’t teach them the answers. Instead, I usually say we should go outside and kick a football. Moving your body is a brilliant way to leave your worries behind! I also remind them that all students make mistakes sometimes, and no one gets everything right. We sit on the grass, and I usually share my apple with them. We don’t go anywhere special, just the school field, but they always feel much happier afterwards.
Mia
If a friend is crying because of a bad mark, I don’t just stay quiet. I want to make them chuckle, so I will describe a silly thing that happened to me in the past. It always works! After that, I promise to do homework with them before the teacher tests us again. We can read the textbook together so they feel ready. I also think it is important to relax. We don’t go to the gym; instead, I ask them to come to my living room and we turn on a brilliant new DVD.
Sam
When my friends are upset about their grades, I know exactly what to do. I am not good at telling jokes, so I don’t try to be funny. I think the best thing is to give them time to express their feelings. I just pay attention without speaking until they are finished. We could go to the cinema to cheer them up, but normally we just stay in the school cafeteria. To make the day better, I always use my own pocket money to get them a large piece of cake or some candy. Eating something delicious always helps!
