Using School Lockers

Liam

I think lockers are very useful because I have so many heavy books this year. My locker is completely clean inside. I don’t add any posters or pictures because I prefer it to look tidy. The only annoying thing is that mine is right at the bottom row. I have to bend down and sit on the floor to get my bags out! My older brother has his own locker at the top, which is much easier. I never bring sports clothes, but I always leave an apple or some biscuits inside so I have energy before my afternoon classes.

Noah

Having a safe place at school is great. My locker is big enough for my school bag, and I also leave my football boots and shorts in there so I don’t have to carry them all day. I usually eat lunch in the cafeteria, so I don’t keep any food inside. I love making my space look cool, so I stick pictures of my favorite singers on the metal walls. Last week, I had a big problem. We have locks with a secret code, and I couldn’t remember the numbers! A teacher had to come and help me unlock the door.

Emma

Our school doesn’t have a lot of lockers, so my best friend and I use the same one. It is nice because our locker is near the gym, but there just isn’t enough room for everything. When we put both of our heavy backpacks inside, there isn’t any space left for my big winter coat! We use a lock with a key, which is easier than remembering a code. I am always worried about losing the key, though! We don’t keep snacks in there because we don’t want to make a mess.

Choosing Our Class President

Jamie

In my class, choosing the leader is really modern. Our teacher doesn’t count paper notes. Instead, we log on to the school website and click on our favourite student. I think this is fantastic because the whole thing is completely private. My best friend never finds out who I wanted! Some people love chatting about who should win during the break, but I stay quiet. Last year, I drew a picture of the winner, but we don’t usually make art for them.

Aisha

In our group, there are no special rules about who can join the competition. It is open to all the boys and girls in the room! When someone wants to win, their friends usually paint big, colourful signs and put them on the walls. I enjoy designing these much more than doing computer homework. We just put our hands up to show who we want, so everybody can see your choice. The boy or girl with the most hands gets a lovely silver pin to attach to their jacket for the rest of the year.

Carlos

Our class election is quite serious. First, the teenagers who want the job must stand up and explain why they are the best person for it. It can be scary to speak while thirty people are watching you! After that, we all write a name on a piece of paper. We don’t use the internet at all. However, getting the most papers doesn’t mean you win. Mr. Davis, our form tutor, looks at the top three students and he is the one who actually makes the final choice. He wants to make sure the student always wears the correct uniform and behaves well.

Learning Grammar with Jokes

Leo

Mr. Jones is my favorite teacher. I usually find grammar rules difficult to remember, but he always makes us laugh. He tells very funny stories to explain how verbs work. Because of this, my results in exams have improved a lot this term! I don’t want to forget the clever things he says, so I bought a small diary just to write them down in. Maria loves to draw pictures in hers, but I only use words. My mum asked me to tell her one of his jokes yesterday, but I couldn’t remember it perfectly!

Maria

When I found out we had grammar lessons every Tuesday, I thought it would be terrible and boring. I was completely wrong! Mr. Jones is such a fun teacher. He doesn’t just tell jokes; he also uses the whiteboard to create silly cartoons of animals doing unusual things. We learn all our adjectives that way! Because the classroom is such a happy place, everyone tries much harder with their exercises. We actually want to learn! I always get high marks now, but I never write his jokes in my notebook.

Sam

I really enjoy our English classes with Mr. Jones. He uses humor to teach us how to build sentences. Often, he says something funny, and the rest of the class starts laughing immediately. However, I often need a minute to think about what he means before I smile! Once I get it, I never forget the grammar rule. When I go home after school, I always share his best stories with my parents and brother at the dinner table. They think he sounds like a brilliant teacher.
