Our Strict But Fair Teachers
Liam
My favourite is Mr. Davis. He teaches maths. You must bring your projects to him on the exact date he asks for them. If you wait until the next day, you will get a zero! However, he is really kind if you don’t understand something. He stays in his room when the bell rings at 3:30 p.m. so anyone can ask him questions. He lets us use our mobiles to check the time, which is nice. We often work in noisy groups, so his lessons are never silent, but we learn a huge amount.
Sophie
Mrs. Clark is my geography teacher. She is very strict about noise. When she is speaking, we must work in complete silence and nobody can chat. Also, if she catches you sending a text message, she puts your smartphone on her desk until it is time to go home! Even though she is tough, she is fantastic. I am sometimes a day behind with my worksheets, but she never shouts at me. She also shares amusing things about her own life, which always makes the whole class laugh.
Tariq
I really respect Ms. Robinson. She is our science teacher and she is very serious. She never shares jokes with us! When she gives us a new activity, she tells us exactly what we need to do step-by-step. Because of this, nobody is ever confused. One big rule is about our lunch. Any snacks or biscuits must stay inside our bags. If you have a sandwich at your desk, you will be in trouble! She leaves the building immediately when classes finish, but during the lesson, she is brilliant.

Welcoming a New Student
Toby
We got a new boy from Spain in our class on Monday. His English is already excellent, so I don’t need to teach him any words. He wasn’t afraid to introduce himself to everyone! On his first morning, I walked with him to the library and the cafeteria so he wouldn’t get lost. We like the same video games, so next weekend, he is coming to my place for lunch. We are going to play online together. He likes tennis, but I prefer swimming.
Clara
An exchange student from Japan joined us this week. At first, I was quite worried about saying hello because I am a quiet person, but he was very friendly. During the break, he took out his phone and let us look at images of his parents and brothers. It was really interesting! I haven’t asked him to visit my house yet. However, we sit together in the classroom, and he teaches me how to say a few basic things in Japanese.
Felix
When the boy from Italy arrived, our teacher asked me to sit next to him. In the math lesson, he didn’t have anything to write with, so I let him have my extra ruler. The teacher told another student to walk him to the science lab. We started talking and found out we both love basketball. Now, we practice throwing the ball together in the park every afternoon. I really want to see some pictures of his city in Italy soon!

The Best Headteacher
Liam
Mr. Davis is a brilliant headteacher. Last term, my grades in maths were terrible. I asked him for some tips, and he spent his lunch break explaining the numbers to me until the work was easy. He doesn’t teach physical education, but he always watches our football matches on Fridays to cheer for us. He also talks to us about our plans when we are older. He gave me great ideas about which college to choose. I don’t know many teachers who care that much about our future.
Sofia
Our headteacher, Mrs. Clark, is amazing because she makes everyone feel important. There are over four hundred teenagers in our building, but she never forgets who we are and always says “good morning” using our first names. When she arrived last year, we couldn’t use our mobile phones during breaks. She changed that strict instruction, so now we can message our friends if we are outside. Some teachers shout when we use phones in class, but she just calmly asks us to put them away.
Mateo
I think Mr. Evans is the greatest headteacher. Before he came, the walls in the halls were grey and boring. He painted them bright blue and put up lots of beautiful posters. He is also really fun. During the lunch break, he often comes outside and runs around playing basketball or tennis with us! Also, if you do something bad or accidentally break a window, he never shouts or raises his voice. He just talks to you quietly about how to fix the problem.
