A Funny Day with a Substitute Teacher
Leo
Last week, our normal history teacher was ill. The new man walked in and sat at the desk. He knew exactly how to use the laptop, which was great. However, he had a huge, thick winter scarf around his neck, even though it was a really hot sunny day! When he started checking who was there, he looked at my best friend David and said, “Good morning, Daniel!” We tried hard not to smile. Then, when he stood up, his heavy bag fell open and all his pens went everywhere all over the floor!
Sam
We were waiting for our geography lesson when a woman came in. She looked very confused. She looked around at us and said, “This isn’t the science lab!” She was in a completely different part of the school! When she finally found the right room and came back to our class, she looked in her folder for the notes from our usual teacher. “I have no idea what we are doing today, the paper is missing!” she said. We were happy because we just read our books quietly. She was dressed in a very normal, smart suit.
Max
Yesterday we had a young guy for our English class. He remembered everyone’s name quickly, which was amazing! He wanted to show us a short movie about a book, but he couldn’t get the smartboard to start. I had to go to the front of the room and press the power button for him. He thanked me and then told us a brilliant story about his time at university. All the students in the room couldn’t stop laughing. It was the most entertaining afternoon we’ve had all year, and we really hope he comes back!

Running in the Corridors
Max
Yesterday, I was chatting in the playground. Suddenly, I realised it was ten o’clock and my math lesson was beginning. I hurried down the hall as fast as I could. Unfortunately, Mr. Jones stood right in front of me! He shouted at me, and all the other teenagers turned around. My face went completely red, it was so terrible. He didn’t give me any extra exercises, but he was very angry. After that happened, I decided I will only ever walk slowly when I am in the school building.
Lily
I love lunchtime, so I rushed to the cafeteria to get a sandwich. I wasn’t late for a lesson, I just wanted food! While I was moving really fast, a tall man stopped me. It wasn’t my usual teacher; he was completely new to the school, so I didn’t recognize his face. I thought he would just tell me to slow down. Instead, he made me write a two-page story about being safe in the halls! I didn’t let my lunch fall, but I was unhappy about spending my evening writing.
Omar
I wasn’t late for my afternoon lesson, but I needed to ask my buddy a quick question about our science project. I rushed down the stairs to look for him. I was moving too fast, and my heavy bag opened. My favorite pen fell out and broke into pieces! Then, my history teacher, Mrs. Smith, came out of her room. I know her very well because she teaches me every Tuesday. She told me off for a long time. She didn’t give me extra tasks, but she told me to clean up the mess.

School Uniform Rules
Liam
At my school, the teachers check our feet every morning. We must put black leather shoes on. If you wear running shoes in the classroom, the teacher will send you home! We only need them for our gym lessons. We don’t have to wear a piece of clothing around our necks for normal classes, just for special events. We also have the same grey jumper all year round. One thing I like is that girls and boys can have a simple watch or one small ring on their finger. My friend has a lovely silver one.
Emma
Our uniform is very traditional. Every morning, both boys and girls must put a special piece of clothing around their necks before they arrive. It has our school colours on it, and we cannot take it off until we go home. Also, our clothes depend on the weather. From November to March we have thick jackets, but we get light, short-sleeved tops for the sunny months. The teachers check us carefully at the gate. If you have any necklaces, they will ask you to remove them immediately. Luckily, I can leave my hair down.
Noah
The headteacher here wants everyone to look very smart. For example, if your top is hanging out over your trousers, you will have to stay after school to do extra writing! Everything must be pushed in neatly. There is also a rule for your feet. We cannot just pick any socks from our bedroom; they must be dark blue or black, never white. I usually walk to school in my comfortable trainers, but I always take them off at the door. Finally, if you have long hair, it cannot fall across your eyes. You must use a band to hold it at the back of your head.
