Making Friends in the Photography Club

Leo

I love the photography club. I didn’t join with anyone from my class, but I quickly found a boy who also plays basketball. We have lots to talk about! Now, we usually meet on Saturdays in the park to capture different animals on film. I really enjoy spending my free days this way. I don’t print my best work on paper. Instead, I upload my images to a website so the rest of the group can view them on their phones. It is a brilliant way to share our ideas!

Mia

When I walked into the room for meeting number one, I was quite quiet and nervous. I didn’t want to open my mouth! But everyone was so kind. Now, I have lots of fantastic friends. Many members love going to the forest to take photos of beautiful flowers or birds, but I think capturing my new friends’ smiles is much more interesting. Sometimes I look at online videos at home to learn new skills, but my club mates are my best teachers. We even sit together at lunch now.

Noah

I actually started going to the sessions with a boy from my maths lesson. We both got new cameras for our birthdays. During the second week, I didn’t know how to turn on the flash. Another girl showed me what to push, and we started talking. We are really close friends now! We don’t hang out on Saturdays because she has football practice, but we always partner up in the club. We love going out to find tall trees and tiny bugs in the school garden to photograph.

Decorating Our Classroom

Kevin

For our school’s Spring Festival, I wanted to do something special. I didn’t buy anything from the shops. Instead, I took some old pages from a book and cut them into beautiful shapes. We painted them in nice colours and hung them on the door during our morning break. When Mr. Davis came into the room later, he couldn’t believe his eyes! He didn’t know we were planning this. It looked amazing with the extra lamps we turned on. Usually, the classroom is quite bright anyway, but the new colours made it even better.

Mia

Our teacher asked us to make the classroom look nice for the festival. I didn’t want to make things from paper, so I brought some plastic flowers. My grandmother had them in her house and said I could use them! They were lovely. I wanted to put them above the whiteboard, but I am quite short. I had to ask a tall boy in my class to place them up there for me. Next year, I might bring a real tree, but these were great for now.

Pablo

I always felt our room didn’t have enough light, so I wanted to change that for the festival. I painted a big sun and climbed on a desk to stick it high on the wall myself. My sister wanted to give me some balloons, but I said no. Instead, I carried a real little tree in a pot from my garden to put on the teacher’s desk. I couldn’t do any of this in the morning. I stayed in the room late in the afternoon when all the lessons were over.

The School Sports Day

Jamie

I always love sports day. This year, my friends and I decided to put on pirate costumes with big hats to support our team. It was really funny! However, when it was time for the 100-metre running competition, my stomach felt strange and my hands were shaking. I was so worried about falling! I didn’t win, but our team captain told me I did a great job. After the games, my friends went to a cafe, but I just wanted to go home and sleep.

Clara

Our sports teacher asked me to be the head of the red team this year. It was a big job, but I was so happy! The morning was brilliant, but sadly a heavy storm started in the afternoon. The grass became too wet and we had to stop playing tennis. Before the rain, I took part in the jumping competition. I am usually terrible at it, so I was amazed when I actually won! I couldn’t believe it when they gave me the gold cup. My parents cheered loudly.

Felix

Sports day is the best event of the year! I didn’t wear any crazy costumes like some other students, I just put on my normal white shorts and T-shirt. The sun was hot all day, which was perfect. The funniest part was the running competition for parents and children. I ran in the race together with my father and younger sister. We fell over and laughed a lot! When everything was finished, my stomach was empty. We had a huge barbecue outside with delicious burgers and sausages.
