Thanking Our Sports Coaches
Julian
Our basketball coach is amazing. Before I met him, I was frightened of playing in matches. In my message, I wrote that he made me believe in myself more. I wanted to paint something for him, but I am bad at art. So, I spent my pocket money on a nice card from the supermarket. I also printed a lovely snapshot of our team and put it inside the envelope. I gave it to him after our last practice, not at the end-of-year dinner. He was very happy!
Megan
My tennis teacher is moving to another town next month. I am really sad because she is the best! I looked for a card to buy in the shops, but I couldn’t find anything nice. Instead, I used my own paper and coloured pens to draw one for her. It took a long time, but it looked beautiful. I wanted the other players to put their names on it too, but I didn’t see them before her final lesson. So, the message was just from me.
Carlos
We have a fantastic volleyball coach, and we wanted to say a big thank you to him. My mum ordered a giant card online, and I brought it to practice. Everyone in the group added a short note next to mine. I didn’t write about feeling more confident, just about how much fun we had this year. We took a lot of photos that day, but we didn’t give him any. Instead, we handed the card to him at our team party. He loved reading all our messages!

Sharing Lunch with a Friend
Anna
Yesterday, my friend Sarah left her bag at home. We usually eat in the cafeteria, so I invited her to sit with me. My dad always packs my lunch, and that day, he put two extra sandwiches in my box! I had plenty of food, so I wasn’t hungry at all. I gave Sarah one sandwich and some chocolate biscuits. She loved the sugar! I usually prepare my own meals at the weekend, but for school, my dad does it. Sarah was really happy.
Ben
My classmate Tom forgot his money, so he couldn’t buy anything in the school shop. We were sitting on the grass in the park behind the school, and I felt sorry for him. I gave him half of my pizza. I didn’t have any cake or fruit to give him, just the pizza. Because I shared, my stomach was empty all afternoon! However, Tom was very thankful. He told me that tomorrow, he will make some sandwiches for both of us to say thank you.
Carlos
I woke up early on Tuesday to prepare chicken and rice for my lunch. When it was time to eat, I saw David looking sad. He didn’t bring his food! I only made enough for one person, but I couldn’t let him watch me eat. I gave him a large piece of chicken and some carrots. He ate the meat quickly, but he left the vegetables on the plate because he hates them! Next time he forgets, maybe I will buy him a burger instead.

The Loud School Bell
Leo
My classroom is right next to the machine that makes the noise at the end of the day. It is definitely loud, but I don’t mind! In fact, I am always grinning when I catch that sound, because it means classes are over and I can finally relax. My teacher sometimes talks until the very last minute, but I am usually standing by the front door, completely ready to go outside. My friend thinks we need a new bell, but I disagree. I just want to hear it and go play football!
Maya
I really dislike the end of the day because the noise is terrible. Every time it goes off, I jump out of my seat because it gives me such a shock! I am never ready for it. Sometimes, Mr. Brown is giving us our homework, but I cannot catch a single word he is saying over the alarm. I really wish they would play a nice pop track or something calm instead of that awful noise. Someone told me to hide my ears under my arms, but that looks silly!
Sam
The bell at our school is incredibly noisy, especially when you are walking in the hall. When it starts, I immediately grab the sides of my head to protect myself from the volume. It is just too much! Also, the main problem is that it keeps ringing and ringing for at least sixty seconds! A few seconds is enough. I know some kids are delighted when it rings because they can go home, but I usually feel a bit annoyed. I just want to quickly get out of the building.
