Visiting famous Christmas markets

David

I went to a fantastic Christmas market in Germany. I arrived early in the morning because I don’t like walking around in the dark. The atmosphere was wonderful. A group of people were singing traditional winter tunes, and I stood there for a long time just enjoying their beautiful voices. I didn’t try the hot sausages because I wasn’t hungry at all. However, I did find a beautiful wooden toy. I got it for my little brother, and I know he will love it.

Anna

My sister and I visited the famous market in Vienna. We decided to go at night because the colorful lights look much more beautiful then. I wanted to buy a glass snow globe for my room, but the prices were very high, so I kept my cash in my pocket. It was freezing outside, but I wore my thickest coat, so I stayed completely warm. Before leaving, we had some fresh, hot soup. It tasted amazing in the fresh winter air.

Marco

My friends and I decided to explore the winter markets in Prague. We bought cheap tickets for the railway, which was a great way to travel without worrying about parking a car in the busy city. We planned to stay outside all day, but the weather was awful. I forgot my winter gloves, and the freezing wind made me want to go back inside immediately. There was a band playing some instruments, but it was too loud. I also didn’t find any presents for anyone.

Our Historic Bus Tour

Mateo

I decided to go on this sightseeing trip at the last minute. Luckily, I easily got my seat on their website before I left my hotel. We saw some amazing old castles and bridges. We spent three hours on the road, but the afternoon went so quickly! I was very happy because the seats were so soft and there was plenty of room for my legs. Our guide was a nice man and knew a lot of history, but he was quite serious and didn’t tell any jokes.

Sophie

This was an excellent way to see the capital! The ticket was very inexpensive, so I saved enough cash to buy a nice dinner later. The woman driving our bus was fantastic. She told us many amusing tales about the famous kings and queens who lived here. However, I was a bit annoyed because there were dark clouds and it rained heavily all morning. I also wish the chairs weren’t so hard. Even with those problems, it was still a lovely day out.

Yuki

I bought my ticket at the little office next to the station, not on my phone. The historic buildings were very beautiful in the bright sunshine. However, the journey was nearly five hours long! I got quite bored and really wished it ended much sooner. When we stopped at the old town square, I found a small shop and picked up a beautiful silver plate to put on my desk at home. It is lovely! It wasn’t a cheap trip, but I am glad I did it.

Learning a Language Abroad

Marco

I spent three weeks in Spain. Instead of staying in a hotel, I had a room with a lovely Spanish husband and wife. They were very kind and showed me how to make a traditional dinner using rice and fresh seafood. In the mornings, I had my classes. The teacher explained everything clearly, so the language lessons weren’t a problem for me at all. I made friends with a few people in my class, but not from all over the world. Next year, I hope to fly to South America to practise more, rather than returning to Europe.

Sofia

My study trip to England was amazing. I stayed in a large student building, so I didn’t stay with a British family. Before this trip, I was always nervous to open my mouth and say something in English. Now, I don’t worry about making mistakes at all! Also, following normal conversations on the street is much simpler for me now than it was before. My classmates came from Asia, South America, and other parts of Europe. We spent all our free time together and became very good friends. I didn’t cook anything, but we ate at great restaurants!

Lucas

I travelled to France for a month to study French. Learning new vocabulary was fun, but remembering how to put the words together correctly was a real challenge for me. I still feel a bit shy when I speak, and catching every word on the radio is still tough. However, I loved the beautiful city and visiting all the art museums. I am already saving my money so I can fly there again next summer. I stayed alone in a small apartment, so I didn’t spend much time with local people after my classes.
