Our Food-Tasting Holidays

Carlos

My food trip to Peru was an amazing experience, but I spent so much cash! The bills at the end of the evening were huge because we ate at famous places. We tried a different cafe every night. I wanted to return to my favourite one, but we just didn’t have time. I tasted many local plates. The meat was wonderful, but the traditional fish soup had an awful flavour. I actually left it all on my plate! People told me to eat the local cakes, but I avoid sugar, so I just had fresh fruit instead.

Megan

I went on a tasting tour in Thailand. We mostly had street food, which cost almost nothing. It was great to save money! On the third day, a local chef showed us the best way to cook the national dish with chicken and noodles. It was so useful! I wanted to pack some special spices in my bag to fly home with, but I didn’t have any space. Unfortunately, on the last afternoon, my stomach was really bad. I couldn’t go out at all and just stayed in my hotel bed, drinking water.

Yuri

My friends and I travelled around Italy to eat. The best part of the trip was definitely the desserts. I had huge bowls of ice cream and traditional chocolate pastries every single day! I ate so much, I am surprised my stomach didn’t hurt! On Tuesday, we found a tiny pizza place. It was so delicious that we returned the following afternoon to have lunch there again. I have no idea how they make their food taste so good. Before my flight, I went to a market and put lots of hard cheese in my suitcase for my parents.

Camping Without Electricity

Toby

When we arrived at the campsite, I realised I couldn’t charge my phone. I really wanted to play my top pop tracks, but my battery was dead in a few hours. It was so quiet! At night, the forest was completely black. Luckily, I packed a strong torch in my bag, so I didn’t fall over when I walked outside my tent. My friend brought some playing cards, but I was too tired to join in. I slept very well and woke up easily at 6 a.m. the next day.

Lara

I thought camping without my tablet would be boring, but it was actually great. In the evening, the sky was very clear, and we saw the moon and thousands of tiny lights above us. It was beautiful! We didn’t have an oven or a microwave, so my dad taught me how to make our dinner over the burning wood. The food tasted amazing! The only problem was the temperature. Even with thick blankets, I was freezing in my tent until the sun came up. I couldn’t see anything inside without a lamp!

Felix

Spending two days without the internet was a fun adventure. Usually, my smartphone wakes me up, so on Saturday morning, I stayed in my sleeping bag until 10 a.m. I just couldn’t open my eyes early! During the day, the weather was very warm, not chilly at all. Because we couldn’t watch movies or use our laptops, my brother and I used a paper board and some plastic pieces to have fun. We spent hours sitting on the grass. We ate cold sandwiches, so we didn’t need to make a fire.

Learning to Surf

Max

Before we travelled, I went shopping and got my own special swimming suit. It was expensive, but I didn’t want to borrow one. When we finally got in the ocean, it was lovely and warm. However, surfing is really hard work! After just twenty minutes of riding the waves, my arms hurt and I needed to sleep! I wasn’t fit enough. Also, our guide talked a lot, but he wasn’t very friendly. Next time, I want to try a land sport instead.

Chloe

I already knew how to sail a boat, so I wasn’t afraid of the water. I could stay in the sea for hours without needing a rest! But during this trip, I needed a hot shower every day because the ocean was freezing! I didn’t enjoy feeling like ice. Because of that, my favourite part of the holiday was actually lying on the yellow sand with a good book while the boys were busy catching waves. I just wore my normal swimsuit, which was fine.

Dan

This was my very first time trying any kind of water sport, so I was a bit nervous. I didn’t buy anything for the trip; I just used the wetsuit the school gave me. The man who showed us what to do was fantastic. He made everything so easy to understand, and I stood up on my board on the first day! I wasn’t cold or tired at all. I loved it so much that I am definitely going to return to this camp next summer!
