Safari and Nature Holidays

Leo

I went on a safari in Africa last month. One morning, we saw a cheetah running across the grass. It was moving like a race car to catch something! Later, we drove past a large female elephant walking with three little ones right behind her. They were so cute. However, my most memorable moment was finding a long snake near our tent. I was really frightened and my legs shook, but the guide said it was safe. While I was having my lunch, some beautiful birds flew into a tree, but they were too active to sleep!

Mia

My family spent a week in a beautiful national park. I was so happy because we found so many amazing creatures! Early one day, I looked up and spotted a wild cat. Its eyes were closed and it was resting on a thick wooden branch. In the afternoon, we sat quietly and watched a tall giraffe grabbing leaves from a bush and chewing them. It was amazing to see it having its dinner! I wanted to photograph a river bird, but I left my camera at the hotel.

Noah

Our nature trip was full of surprises. I really wanted to spot a tiger in the tall grass. Sadly, we drove around for hours and didn’t find a single one, which made me quite unhappy. But I wasn’t scared at all when a huge hippo walked right past our jeep! The best part was when we stopped by a deep lake. A group of monkeys were taking a bath, and I used my phone to get some brilliant pictures of them splashing around. I also saw a baby monkey, but it was all alone.

The Benefits of a Staycation

Emma

For my holiday this year, I stayed in my city. I loved waking up in my own bedroom every morning instead of a strange hotel! It was so relaxing. One afternoon, I walked to the other side of town. While I was there, I discovered a tiny, beautiful garden behind the supermarket. I had never seen it before, even though I have lived here for five years! I also ate at a very nice, expensive restaurant. A staycation is a wonderful way to rest.

David

My cousin came to visit me for a week, so we decided to be tourists in our own town. We didn’t sleep at my house; we booked a lovely room in a local guesthouse. We walked for hours every day! My favorite activity was visiting the city’s oldest buildings. We read lots of interesting stories about the people who built them hundreds of years ago. We also went to a popular art museum, which I visit all the time. It was great to share my favorite places with my family.

Sofia

I usually go to other countries for my holidays, but I hate sitting on planes for hours. This time, my staycation started immediately because I was already here! Also, because I didn’t buy flight tickets, the whole week was much cheaper than my usual trips. I met my best friend, and we spent a lot of time outdoors. I always drive my car to work, but for this holiday, we rented bicycles. It was so much fun to ride through the streets and look at everything slowly.

A school trip to an environmental science center

Alice

We learned a lot at the science center! My favorite part was listening to a guide talk about nature. I finally understood what we are doing in class, so it will be much easier to write my science project now. We also saw a short video about rivers, but it was a bit boring. Later, they showed us how to build a small wooden house for birds. I am going to make one in my garden this weekend! I felt quite sleepy on the bus ride back, but it was a great day.

Ben

Our trip to the environmental center was brilliant. First, we spent two hours walking around the forest looking at trees and insects. It was fantastic, but my legs hurt and I needed a long rest afterwards. I loved the big cinema there. We watched an amazing documentary about life underwater, and the fish were beautiful. Before we got back on the bus, I went into the store. I got a really cool T-shirt with a picture of the earth on it to keep as a souvenir. I just wish the trip helped me with my homework!

Carla

When my teacher first told us about the science center, I thought it would not be interesting at all. But I was totally wrong; it was actually an amazing place! Because of the heavy rain, we couldn’t go outside to look at the plants. Instead, we spent the whole morning inside doing fun experiments. I really wanted to get a little toy from the shop, but I didn’t have enough money. The place is so big that we didn’t see everything. I plan to ask my parents to take me back there during the summer holidays.
