Buying Clothes for the Lunar New Year
Leo
I always get my new clothes at the very end of the year. I wait until the day before the festival starts! I hate walking around busy shopping centres, so I never go to the mall. Instead, I use my laptop to order everything from my favourite websites. It is so fast! Some people like wearing traditional pieces, but I prefer modern jeans and a cool sweater. I usually choose blue or green. I don’t care about wearing lucky colours; I just want to feel comfortable when I visit my relatives!
Mia
Finding the perfect outfit takes me weeks, so I start looking very early, not at the last minute! I love history, so I always choose our beautiful national dress for the Lunar New Year. It feels very special. I don’t use the internet to find my clothes. I like to walk to a small shop near my house with my mum. I always buy something red. In my culture, this bright shade means you will have a fantastic, happy year. I pay for it with my own pocket money, so it isn’t a present!
Sam
I never spend my own cash on clothes for the Lunar New Year. Every year, my lovely grandmother buys a beautiful new shirt and trousers for me. I usually go to the big clothing stores with her, but it is always terrible because there is no space to walk. The shops are completely full of customers! We don’t order on the web because my grandmother likes paying with cash. Once I have my new things, I put them in my cupboard. I never put them on until the morning of the first day!

Monthly Clothing Boxes
Chloe
I started getting these monthly clothing boxes because my sister told me about them. The first box was very slow. I checked the post every day, and it finally came after a month! Inside, there was a beautiful black skirt. I put it on for my work at the bank the next morning, and it looked very smart. However, the second month, they sent a bright green jacket. I never wear green, so I was really unhappy with it. I hope the next box is better.
Finn
I thought getting a surprise T-shirt every month was a fun idea. The quality is actually very good. I got a blue one and a red one, which are my absolute favourite colours. I even wore the blue one to a business meeting. But I have to say, the price is just too high for a single shirt. I can easily find cheaper things in the shopping centre. Because of this, I told the company I don’t want them to send me anything else next month.
Zara
I work long hours during the week, so I cannot spend my weekend looking for dresses in town. This monthly service is perfect for me because the clothes come straight to my house! The clothes are usually beautiful and the price is quite low. The delivery is always very fast, too. Last month, they sent a lovely winter coat. Unfortunately, it was too small for me. I didn’t send it back. Instead, I offered it to my younger sister, and it fit her perfectly!

The Worst Changing Rooms
Leo
I usually shop using my laptop, but yesterday I went to a real shop. I hate the changing rooms! The glass was placed so high up on the wall that I could only see my head and shoulders. I wanted to know if my new trousers looked good, but I couldn’t see my legs at all! I stepped backwards to see more of my clothes and crashed right into a wooden shelf. Everyone heard the loud noise, but I wasn’t embarrassed. I just left the store without buying anything.
Mia
I really dislike buying clothes in town. In many shops, the place where you put on the clothes is totally empty. There isn’t any glass on the walls inside! To check if a dress fits, you have to open the curtain and step outside into the main shop. Then, all the other shoppers can stare at you while you decide if you like it. I hate that feeling. The lights outside are very bright, but I just want to check my clothes without people watching me.
Toby
Trying things on is the worst part of shopping. Sometimes there is a big mirror so you can check your shoes and trousers, but the lamps are terrible. They use yellow lights that make my face look grey and sick! Also, the little rooms they give you are tiny. There is not enough space to even turn around when taking off a t-shirt, and I always bump my elbows against the door. I prefer shopping where I can actually move my arms!
