Travelling to work

Robert

I use both the underground and the bus to get to my job. The underground is incredibly fast, but I often have to stand because it is so full. The bus is much better for my wallet. The tickets are a very low price, so I keep more cash for myself. However, the streets are quite busy in the mornings, which means the bus is frequently delayed. Because of the heavy traffic, I usually look at my phone instead of looking out the window. I really hate being late!

Megan

I love taking the bus when it is sunny because I can watch all the beautiful buildings and streets as we drive past. However, the bus gets really hot in the summer! On most days, I choose the underground. The ticket price is quite high, but the station is only two minutes away from the place where I work. It is very useful for me. Also, the train journey is very smooth, so I can enjoy a few chapters of a novel before I start my day in the office.

David

Every morning, I have to decide how to travel. The underground is great if you want to avoid the rain, but waiting there is uncomfortable. The temperature down there is so high, especially in July, that I always need a cold drink! Sometimes the trains don’t run on schedule either. I actually prefer the bus. Even though it takes longer, I never have to stand up. There is always an empty place for me. I put my headphones on, close my eyes, and listen to music until I arrive.

Buying Our Monthly Tram Passes

Max

My college gives me a special piece of paper, so I don’t have to pay the full price for tram travel. I usually use my phone to get my ticket on the local transport app. It’s much easier than going to the station. My dad drives to work, so he never helps me pay for my travel. Once I left my bag on the tram, but luckily my pass was in my pocket! The only problem is that I don’t always remember that my old ticket has finished. Then I have to walk to classes!

Chloe

I never forget to get my new pass on the first day of the month. I always walk down to the tram stop and use the big box on the wall to get my travel card. I tried to get it online once, but my computer didn’t work. Last week, I dropped my pass somewhere on the street. I had to pay for another one, which was so annoying! My friends think the tram is expensive, but twenty pounds for thirty days is actually a great price.

Ben

My mum always gives the money for my tram travel because I don’t have a part-time job. She doesn’t use the ticket boxes at the station; she just speaks to the man at the desk to get it for me. I really believe they ask for too much cash for a student ticket. Forty pounds is a lot! My teachers do not give us any special cards to make it cheaper, either. I never lose my pass because I keep it safely inside my phone case.

Booking High-Speed Train Tickets

Leo

I love taking the fast train for my holidays. I always arrange everything many weeks before my trip begins. By getting my ticket early, I can make sure I sit right next to the glass to see the beautiful fields and towns go by. If you wait until you arrive at the station to buy one, they are often completely sold out, especially in summer. My sister uses her smartphone for her journeys, but I actually like having a real piece of paper in my hand when I travel.

Maya

Going on fast trains is a great way to travel. I always get my tickets online because I don’t want to carry pieces of paper. Keeping everything on my mobile is much easier. Also, when I buy them a few months early, they are not expensive at all. It is the best way to save some cash. I don’t travel for business, I usually go to explore new cities in my free time. I don’t really care where I sit in the carriage, because I usually sleep the whole time!

Sam

I have to travel a lot because my company has a large office in the capital city. The high-speed train gets me to my important meetings very quickly. I also use the train at the weekend to go and see my parents and my grandparents in the countryside. I buy my tickets in advance, but it is not because I want to keep my money. It is because the trains get very busy. I prefer to sit by the door, so I can get off the train first.
