Practicing for the Talent Competition
Mia
I want to win the singing show next month, so I practice every day. I don’t stand in front of a glass to see my face because it just makes me laugh. Instead, I use my smartphone to make a copy of my voice. Hearing the file later helps me find the notes I get wrong. My dad is a great singer, but he is too busy to help me. I am always very busy too, so I usually sing quietly while I am on the bus every morning! I haven’t changed my music choice since day one.
Liam
I really want to do well in the talent show, but I feel terrified when people look at me. To stop feeling scared, I stand in my bedroom and look at my own reflection in the glass while I perform. It really helps! My sister suggested a rock song for me, but I didn’t like it. At first, I picked a famous pop track. However, last week I chose a slow jazz tune instead. I don’t listen to myself on my phone because I don’t like how it sounds. I just sing loudly!
Chloe
The local competition is going to be fantastic! To practice, I spend a lot of time on my computer. I go to different websites to search for cool songs that I can learn. My brother likes to sing on the train, but I only practice at home. I am very lucky because my aunt is a music teacher. She visits every weekend and plays the piano while I perform. We never record my voice because she tells me what to do better. I am very excited and not worried at all!

Our Little Gardens
Jamie
I started my little garden last spring. I only grow bright red and yellow flowers, not carrots or potatoes for cooking. After a busy day at school, digging in the dirt makes me forget my worries and feel peaceful. I try to spend an hour there every afternoon, not just on Saturdays or Sundays. Sometimes, the work is hard, so my grandfather comes over to show me the best way to care for everything. I never buy expensive tools, but the garden looks beautiful!
Clara
I don’t have enough space for big trees, so I keep my garden in small pots on the balcony. Getting the seeds and dirt from the shop is actually quite cheap, so it doesn’t take all my pocket money. The sun is always perfect here, so everything grows really fast. My friends sometimes ask for some of my plants, but I keep everything for my own kitchen. Actually, my mum and I put the tomatoes and onions I grow into our daily salads and soups. It tastes great!
Dan
Having a garden is a wonderful hobby. From Monday to Friday, I have too much homework, so I can only do my digging on Saturdays. I mostly grow roses. My dad tried to assist me once, but I prefer working alone. Last month, we had lots of heavy rain for a week, and sadly, a few of my new plants died. But the others are doing well! When the flowers are ready, I always cut them and hand them to my teachers or friends for their birthdays.
