Learning to Play an Instrument

Leo

I got a guitar for my birthday last year. In the beginning, I couldn’t make any nice sounds and my fingers really hurt. I almost stopped! But now I am much better. I don’t go to a teacher; I just learn by reading a book I bought. I prefer playing completely alone in my bedroom. I usually practice as soon as I wake up, before I even eat my toast. It is a great way to start my day. I don’t want a new guitar because this one is perfect.

Maya

I started playing the piano when I was eight. I didn’t watch videos to learn. My grandfather was a musician, and he showed me where to put my hands on the keys. I still play the same beautiful piano he gave me. School can make me feel very tired, but playing my favourite songs makes me feel calm and happy again. I don’t like practicing in the morning, so I usually play after dinner. Every Saturday, my friends come to my house with their guitars and we play loud songs together.

Sam

Learning the guitar was quite simple for me. I didn’t need anyone in my family to help me because I found everything on my laptop. There are lots of great websites where people explain how to play different songs step by step. I am saving all the money from my part-time job right now. The guitar I use is very old, and I plan to purchase a shiny electric one next summer! I sometimes invite my classmates to listen, but I usually just practice by myself.

Favorite Cinema Genres

Leo

I absolutely love action movies! My older brother always takes me to see them on the big screen at the weekend. We never choose funny stories because they are usually quite boring to us. For me, the best part of an action story is when the heroes drive amazing sports vehicles at top speed. It is so exciting! Some people cover their eyes when there are loud noises or danger on the screen, but I am never scared. When I find a really good film, I view it again and again without ever getting tired of it.

Maya

My favorite types of movies are about space and the future. The stories are incredible, but the strange monsters from other planets can make me jump sometimes! I prefer to enjoy these films on the television in my living room. Buying tickets for the big screen costs a lot of cash, so I prefer to save my pocket money. My parents usually watch with me at home, but they often fall asleep! I don’t like viewing anything twice, so I am always looking for completely new stories on the internet for my Friday movie nights.

Sam

I always choose to watch comedies. If I have a difficult day at school and feel sad, turning on a comedy instantly makes me feel much better. I love actors who do silly things and make me smile and laugh out loud. I never watch horror stories because I hate feeling terrified! I usually go to the local cinema with my classmates, not my family. We often buy snacks and enjoy the afternoon together. We don’t mind spending our money on tickets because joking with friends is the best way to relax.

Our Passion for Art

Leo

I hate using gray pencils. Using a brush with lots of bright colors is my favorite thing. I want to be a real artist one day, so I go to a special club on Saturdays. The teacher there shows me how to make the trees and rivers look better on the page. I always sit in the park or near the sea to do my work. I can’t stay in my room! I tried to draw my sister once, but catching the look on her face was too hard for me.

Sofia

I don’t like sitting in the forest or near the beach with the wind and bugs. I always do my art at a quiet desk in my bedroom. My favorite subjects are faces. I often ask my parents and cousins to sit still while I look at them and make my pictures. I mostly use black pencils for my work, not colors. Next month, I hope to win a reward at the town art festival. I am getting my best piece ready for it right now.

Max

I do a lot of drawing every day, so my box is almost empty. I have to go to the store this weekend to get more blank paper and pens. I learned everything from reading books, not from a teacher. I don’t keep the things I make. When it is someone’s special day, I always hand them a beautiful picture of a person or a place that I made just for them. I don’t want to try to win any contests. I just do it for fun.
