Working From Home

Mark

I really enjoy doing my job from my house. Before, I had to travel for an hour, but now I use those extra sixty minutes to read a book and have a slow breakfast. It is a brilliant way to begin the day! We use a video program to talk to the team. It works perfectly and never breaks. Another great thing is my outfit. I don’t need to put on a tight suit and a tie anymore. I just wear a simple t-shirt and shorts during my shifts!

Sarah

Many people love putting on comfortable jeans to work at home, but I still put on a nice dress. I find that being alone in my own room helps me concentrate. I actually complete my projects much faster than when I am at my desk in the city! Every day, we have discussions on our laptops. Honestly, I prefer looking at my colleagues on the screen instead of sitting together around a large table. The only problem is my internet connection. Sometimes the video freezes or the voices sound strange.

David

Video calls are a huge part of my week. I miss chatting with my friends face-to-face, but online meetings are quite fun. My two cats always jump on my desk while I am talking. I love turning my camera on so everyone in the company can watch them play! The best benefit of staying at home is cooking. When I was in the office, I bought expensive sandwiches every day. Now, I make my own hot lunches. It leaves a lot of extra pounds in my wallet at the end of the month!

Organizing Digital Files for a Great Workday

Anna

I always have so much to do during the day. Before, my desktop was a terrible mess! I am not very good with technology, so my older brother actually built the digital groups for my documents. Now everything is very tidy and easy to use. Because I save so many huge files, the hard drive was completely full. Last week, I had to spend some cash to get a bigger online drive to hold everything safely. I try to read my emails in the morning, but I don’t delete them. Sometimes I add colors to my notes, but it doesn’t help me much!

Ben

To have a wonderful workday, my computer must be completely clean. When bad or useless emails arrive in my inbox, I throw them in the digital bin the second I see them. I have thousands of work files, but I never click through long lists of folders. It takes too much time! Instead, I just type the title I need in the empty box at the top of the screen to get it quickly. Also, my family holiday snaps are stored on a different laptop entirely. Mixing business and fun is a bad idea! I don’t pay for space because I keep things simple.

Clara

My friends usually ask me to organize their files because my screen is so beautiful! To help me work fast, I change my main folders to bright red, blue, or yellow. This means my eyes can catch them in a second. I receive lots of messages all day, but looking at them stops me from doing my jobs. Because of this, I only write back to people just before I switch off my PC at five o’clock. I keep everything, so I never throw messages in the bin. I don’t need to look for words using the search bar either.

Modern Open-Plan Offices

Toby

My mum’s office is an enormous room with absolutely no walls between the workers! Because everyone is in one space, it gets very loud. It is often hard to listen to the person next to you. When my mum needs to ring important customers, she goes into a tiny room with a closed door so no one can bother her. She usually works at the exact same computer every day. When she takes a break, she doesn’t sit on a normal chair. She lies down on some huge, comfortable sofas in the corner!

Zara

My dad’s workplace is amazing. The walls aren’t boring and white. Instead, everything is painted bright yellow and orange, which makes people feel happy! He never sits in the same spot. When he arrives in the morning, he just picks an empty desk, plugs in his laptop, and starts working. There are some hard wooden chairs around the room, but nobody minds. There are no places to play sports or relax in his building, but they do have a great kitchen where everyone chats and eats lunch together.

Liam

I visited my mother’s new office last week. The best thing is the rest area. When the staff are tired, they can enjoy some table tennis or complete puzzles together. It is a brilliant way to relax! The whole place looks like an indoor garden. There are tall trees in pots and beautiful green leaves everywhere. It is completely silent in there, so my mum never has to leave her desk to speak to clients on her mobile. It is a very calm and quiet place to work.
