Our Quiet Evenings Together

My name is Lily, and my family is usually very busy during the day. My parents work hard, and my older brother, Ben, and I have school and sports. But every evening after dinner, we always spend time together in our living room. It is my favourite part of the day.

In the living room, everyone has their favourite relaxing activity. My dad often sits in the big armchair. He does not watch TV. Instead, he likes reading the news on his tablet. Ben usually sits on the floor. He loves building tall towers with his plastic blocks or drawing pictures of animals.

My mum prefers sitting on the sofa. She always puts on some quiet music and makes a warm cup of tea. Sometimes she reads a book, but she usually knits winter clothes for us. I sit next to her with my little notebook. I write about my day in my diary. On Fridays, we stop our own activities and play a fun board game together.

I love these quiet evenings. We do not talk much because everyone is busy with their own hobbies. But it feels wonderful to be in the same room with the people I love. I always feel happy and safe before I go to sleep.

A Healthy Bedtime Habit

Meet fifteen-year-old Toby. He is a high school student who loves playing video games in his bedroom. However, he had a problem. He often felt very tired in the mornings. His doctor told him that looking at a bright computer screen late at night is bad for his sleep. So, Toby decided to make a big change.

Instead of playing games, Toby wanted to start a new, healthy habit. He planned to read ten pages of a book every night just before he goes to sleep. He went to the town library and borrowed an exciting story about a young detective in London. He put the book on the small table next to his bed so he wouldn’t forget.

The first few nights were quite difficult. On Monday, Toby only read four pages before he fell asleep. The book was interesting, but his eyes were too tired. On Wednesday, his best friend called him to play a game online, but Toby said no. He turned off his phone and opened his book. This time, he easily finished his ten pages.

After a month, everything is different. Toby never goes to sleep without reading his book. In fact, sometimes he reads twenty pages because he wants to know what happens next! He feels much better in the mornings, and he has already finished three books. He is very proud of his new habit.
