A Problem Before Class

Fourteen-year-old Leo arrived at his high school early on Monday morning. He felt quite happy because he had a great weekend. His first lesson of the day was maths with Mr. Davis, so he needed to get his heavy textbook. Leo walked quickly down the hall to his blue locker.

He put his small silver key into the lock and tried to turn it, but nothing happened. The locker door didn’t open. Leo pushed and pulled the door, but it stayed shut. He looked at his watch. The bell was going to ring in exactly five minutes! Leo started to panic. His best friend, Mia, saw him and came to help, but she couldn’t open it either.

“Don’t worry,” Mia said kindly. “Let’s ask the school caretaker, Mr. Barnes. He knows how to fix everything.” The two teenagers ran to his small office near the library. Mr. Barnes listened to Leo’s problem and smiled. He took a spray bottle of oil and a special tool from his desk and followed them back to the hall.

Mr. Barnes put some oil in the lock and used his tool. A few seconds later, the door finally opened! Leo quickly grabbed his maths book just as the loud school bell rang. Sports in the Fresh Air

Fourteen-year-old Charlie loves sports. He is a student at an old school in the middle of the city. The school building is very small, so it doesn’t have a sports hall. For Charlie, this is a big problem because his favourite subject is physical education.

Because there is no gym, the students have to do their sports lessons outside. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Charlie’s teacher, Mr. Davies, takes the class to a large public park. The students walk for twenty minutes to get there. They usually play football or practice running on the grass. When it is sunny, the park is beautiful. However, when it is raining, the lessons are very difficult and cold.

Last week, the class played a game of volleyball in the park. While they were playing, some people stopped to watch them. They were walking their dogs and wanted to see the game. At first, Charlie felt quite shy. But then, he jumped high and hit the ball perfectly. The people clapped and cheered for him.

A Freezing Day in Class

It was a Tuesday morning in January, and the weather was terrible. It was snowing, and it was freezing outside. Fourteen-year-old Ben walked quickly to his school. He was happy to go inside because his school is usually very warm and comfortable during the winter.

However, when Ben walked into his classroom, it was as cold as the street outside! His teacher, Mr. Harris, was already there, wearing a thick sweater and boots. Mr. Harris explained to the students that the school’s heating system was broken. “A mechanic is coming soon,” he said, “but it will take a few hours to fix the problem.”

Ben decided not to take off his heavy winter coat. He also kept his wool hat and scarf on. Soon, all his classmates arrived, and they did exactly the same thing. It looked very strange and funny to see thirty students sitting at their desks in their outdoor winter clothes.

During the first lesson, they had to do a math test. Ben found it very difficult to hold his pen and write his answers because he was wearing thick gloves.
