The Sweet Smell of Spring

David

I have a big garden, and May is my favorite month. I don’t go for long walks to find nature because everything I need is right outside my door. Every afternoon, I take a comfortable chair outside and open a good novel. The sweet air from the pink blossoms is wonderful. Breathing it in helps me forget about my busy day at work and makes me feel completely peaceful. I never cut the plants to bring inside the house because I think they look much better growing in the warm sun.

Elena

There is a lovely public garden near my apartment. I usually leave my car at home and walk there to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. The best time to smell the flowers is right after I wake up, before the sun gets too hot. The sweet perfume in the air is so strong then! I don’t read or listen to music while I’m there; I just look at nature. Last weekend, I picked a few small white blossoms and placed them in a glass of water in my kitchen. Now, my whole flat smells fantastic!

Marco

Last autumn, I put lots of seeds in the ground behind my house. Now that it is spring, I feel so proud! The sweet smell comes through my living room window all day. I haven’t cut any for the dinner table yet, but I love looking at them outside. The garden is full of bright red, deep purple, and sunny yellow blossoms. It looks just like a beautiful painting. The gardening work made me very tired, but seeing and smelling my own wonderful nature project makes me feel really happy and excited!

Our Bean Plant Project

Leo

My science teacher gave us a small plastic cup and a bean. For the first two weeks, nothing happened! I thought waiting for the green leaves to appear took a lot of time. I didn’t know what to do, so I talked to my grandfather because he loves gardening. He told me to put it near the window. I never forgot to give it a drink, but it didn’t get very big. When we got our grades, I took the container home to use again for some flowers instead of putting it in the bin.

Clara

Our homework was to take care of a bean. At first, I left my plant on my bedroom desk. However, it was too dark there, so I carried it downstairs to the kitchen where the sun shines all day. That really helped! When I brought it back to school, my bean reached higher than everyone else’s in the classroom. My friend Dan wanted to cook his beans, but mine were too small for a meal. I also asked my teacher for help during the project, not my parents.

Dan

I really enjoyed this project! I put my bean outside on the balcony. One week, the weather was very hot and I didn’t remember to give it a drink for several days. The leaves turned brown, which was scary! Luckily, it got better after that. It grew quite fast, not slowly at all. In the end, it produced a few long green vegetables. I added them to my salad for dinner, and they tasted delicious. After that, I threw the old cup in the rubbish.

Picking Fresh Fruit

Leo

I usually buy apples and strawberries from the grocery store, but they are never this delicious! Finding them yourself makes them taste so much better. While I was standing in the sunny field, I actually put a few straight into my mouth. They were so sweet! I didn’t get very many, so my bag wasn’t heavy to carry. The trip gave me a great idea, too. Next spring, I hope to plant some strawberry seeds behind my house so I can just step outside and pick them every day.

Mia

I visited the farm on Saturday morning to get lots of apples. I was surprised because I didn’t have to spend very much money for them. They cost much less than usual! I didn’t try any of them in the field. Instead, I waited until I was back in my kitchen. That afternoon, I used my apples to bake a big cake for my family’s dinner. It was amazing! My younger brother had a lot of reading to do for his classes, so he couldn’t come with me, but he loved the dessert.

Sam

I only went to the fruit farm because my science teacher asked us to find out how farmers grow things. I thought it would be a relaxing trip, but filling those big baskets with strawberries is actually a very tiring job! By the end of the day, my arms and legs really hurt. My mum wanted to use our fruit to make some hot jam on the cooker, but we just ate them all too fast! We don’t have space outside our house to keep plants, so I will definitely go back to the farm again soon.
