Helping in the Garden

Leo

I went to my grandparents’ house on a beautiful sunny day. We spent the whole morning putting carrot and potato seeds into the ground. My grandma usually cooks a big lunch for us, but this time we just had sandwiches. Digging the dirt was not easy. By the end, my arms and legs hurt a lot and I needed to sleep! Because I did such a great job, my granddad gave me a new video

game. Next week, we need to water the plants if it doesn’t rain.

Mia

My grandpa loves his garden, but he gets tired quickly these days, so I always help him. We decided to grow tomatoes and onions this year. We didn’t use old seeds; instead, we drove to the garden centre and paid for new ones. After putting everything in the dirt, grandma brought out some large bowls of chocolate ice cream for us. It was delicious! I really love eating fresh food, so I cannot wait to use our tomatoes to prepare pizzas for my family soon.

Noah

Last weekend, my grandparents asked me to help them outside. I didn’t want any money for doing it because I enjoy spending time with them. My granddad gave me some special seeds that his friend saved from last year. We planted green beans and red chili peppers. I was excited because I love eating things that have a fiery heat! We were almost finished when dark clouds appeared and it suddenly got very wet. We had to run inside quickly, but we had a lot of fun.

Autumn Leaves

Lucas

Every weekend in autumn, I work with my mother and father to put all the orange and brown leaves into big bags. There is a huge old tree just outside my window, and it drops hundreds of leaves onto our grass every day. I know that when the branches become empty, the temperature goes down quickly and I need to start wearing a heavy jacket. My sister uses her phone to get pictures of the garden, but I am usually too busy working!

Emma

For me, autumn is the most wonderful time of the year. When I walk through the park, I always look for the driest leaves on the ground because I love hearing them break under my boots. I usually pick up the most beautiful red and yellow ones to carry back to my room. Then, I use glue and paper to create lovely pictures for my wall. The park worker has to sweep the paths, but luckily he always leaves some for me to find!

Finn

I think the forests look absolutely amazing in autumn. I always carry my smartphone with me on walks so I can keep a record of the bright orange and gold trees. Even when the sky is sunny and quite warm, the leaves continue to fall. My friends and I love pushing them together to build a small mountain on the grass. After that, the best part is running and falling right into the middle of it! We always get completely dirty, but it is great fun.

Taking Care of Desk Plants

Oliver

I keep a tiny green cactus next to my computer screen. I didn’t wait for someone to give it to me as a present; I used my own pocket money to buy it. Because it is a desert plant, I only need to give it liquid once a month. It hates getting too much! It sits in a dark corner of my desk, far away from the sun. To keep it looking nice, I usually take a wet cloth and remove the dust from the green top. Taking care of it is very easy.

Lily

I have a beautiful orchid on my desk. I didn’t buy it; my grandmother brought it to me for my birthday last year. Unlike plants that hate being wet, this one needs a drink every single day. The best thing about it is that every spring, it produces amazing pink and red blossoms. It really brightens up my room! I read online that making noise helps things grow, so I often sing happy tunes to it while I do my homework. It seems to work very well!

Max

On my desk, I have a small fern in a white pot. A few years ago, I completely failed at looking after a similar one. It went brown and dropped all its leaves because I didn’t know what I was doing! Now, I am much more careful. It doesn’t grow any bright flowers, just simple green leaves, and I never bother removing the dirt from them. However, I make sure to put its pot right next to the glass so it catches all the natural morning sunlight.
