Growing Our Own Tomatoes

Max

I always wanted to try gardening, so I bought some seeds. I kept the pots outside in my garden because there wasn’t much space in my bedroom. My grandfather knows a lot about vegetables, and he gave me some useful advice on how much water to give them. The plants grew really quickly, so I didn’t need to be patient. When the tomatoes were finally red, I didn’t put them in the oven or soup. I just washed them and put them straight into a fresh salad. They tasted so sweet!

Growing my own food was a great experience, but it wasn’t fast. I had to look after the plants for months before the green fruit finally turned red. Nobody in my house helped me with the watering; I did it all by myself. I know some people like eating them cold, but I cut mine up and boiled them to create a delicious pasta sauce for the evening. It was the best dish ever. Next spring, I’m going to plant some carrots and potatoes instead.

A few months ago, I was watching a documentary about farming, and it gave me the idea to start my own little garden. I live in a flat without a balcony, so I put my pots next to the sunny window in my living room. I was so happy when I picked my first red tomatoes! My mum used them to make a cold cheese sandwich for my lunch. They were completely different from the ones you buy in the supermarket. I will definitely plant the exact same seeds next year.
