Dangerous Wild Plants
Harry
I love going to the woods to take pictures of tall trees. Last week, I went with my uncle. He didn’t know anything about the dangerous nature there. But I went to the library beforehand and found a great guide about the local woods. It explained that some wild greens can give you a terrible skin problem. Because of that information, I put long trousers and thick gloves on my hands. I didn’t get sick at all, but I saw some plants that looked really scary.
Chloe
Last month, my grandmother told me to be very careful in the forest. She said there are green things that can hurt you if you touch them. I didn’t listen to her words. I was wearing a short dress, and I fell into some dark green bushes. My legs started to burn and turn red. It was so bad that my mum drove me straight to the hospital. The nurse gave me some cream. The pain stopped almost immediately, so I felt better by the next morning.
Ben
There is a beautiful forest near my house, but you have to watch out for a specific plant. Its flowers are pretty, but the flat green parts at the bottom are full of poison. I didn’t know this! One day, I saw a beautiful butterfly on it. I moved very close with my phone to get a good shot of the insect. My bare hand brushed against the plant. I thought about visiting the clinic, but I just went home. My fingers were covered in red spots, and they stayed like that for almost three weeks!

Escaping the Sun
Harry
The park was incredibly hot this afternoon, so I looked for a cool place. I sat under the huge oak tree because I needed to finish my maths project. It was much better than sitting at my warm desk at home! While I was reading my textbooks, I suddenly heard a voice. I didn’t expect to find my classmate, Sarah, there. We chatted for a bit while watching other people play tennis in the sun. I felt quite hungry because I didn’t have any snacks in my bag, and I was sad I forgot my camera because the shadows looked beautiful.
Ruby
I love the massive old oak tree near the river. Today, the sun was very strong, so I sat in the dark shadows of its branches to keep cool. It was lovely. I actually brought a history book with me, but I never opened it. Instead, I just listened to the sweet songs of the wild birds above me. The noise was very relaxing. I lay down on the soft grass and actually closed my eyes for half an hour! When I woke up, I got my smartphone out to save some beautiful images of the green leaves.
Dan
I went to the park with my older brother this morning. We were running and kicking a football for an hour, and we got extremely hot! To escape the burning sun, we found a dry spot under the famous old oak tree. We didn’t feel tired at all, so we didn’t close our eyes. However, we were ready for our lunch! We unpacked some cheese sandwiches and cold juice. It was fantastic to cool down. There wasn’t any noise from wildlife, just the wind in the branches, which was a great way to end our busy morning.

Watering the Grass in a Dry Summer
Toby
It has not rained for weeks, so our garden is completely yellow and dry. My parents asked me to help, so my sister and I take turns holding the heavy pipe to spray the yard. I prefer doing it in the evening when it is cooler, not before breakfast. Honestly, I stand out there for what feels like hours waiting for the dirt to get wet. I wish the job was faster! Also, yesterday I accidentally stepped on the plastic end of the pipe and it broke into pieces. My dad was not very happy about that.
Elena
Keeping the yard healthy right now is hard work. My brother is too lazy to help, so I do it all myself. To stop the hot sun from drying the ground immediately, I get out of bed at six o’clock to do the watering, before I even eat anything. It is actually a very quick job. We don’t use water from the house because it is too expensive. Instead, we have a large barrel that collected showers from the sky during the winter. Using that is much better for the environment.
Marcus
Our backyard looked terrible last month. We are hoping for rain soon, but until then, my parents give me five pounds a week to spray the yard. Making money is great, and I am saving it to buy a new video game! It is hard work carrying the hose around, but my dad bought a brand new one recently and it works perfectly. I am really happy with the results of my hard work. I can finally see new grass coming up, and it is not brown and dead anymore!
