Future City Doctors
Lucas
I have wanted to be a doctor since I was ten. I live in London now, but I don’t want to stay here. I am studying Spanish because my dream is to move to Madrid and join a busy hospital there. Many of my classmates couldn’t do this job, but red liquids from a cut don’t scare me at all! My little brother gets unwell sometimes, but I prefer treating adults. The only problem is that I love my bed! Staying awake until the morning to look after patients will be very difficult for me.
Sofia
I live in the city centre and our local clinic is always full. I really want to get a job there in the future! Nobody in my family is a doctor, but they think it is a great idea. In class, my favourite subject is biology, and I always get good marks on my tests. Some doctors travel to emergencies, but I don’t want to ride in fast vans with loud alarms. When I am older, I want to work with the youngest patients. Seeing little boys and girls get better makes me so happy.
Mateo
Becoming a doctor is definitely my biggest plan. My father’s brother does this job in a huge city hospital, and he tells me amazing stories about his day. I don’t want to work anywhere else; I want to stay right here in my hometown. Some students think working in the dark hours is terrible, but I often stay up late anyway. My favorite thing about emergencies is the transport! I hope to be the person who goes out to help people in the streets. Travelling in those fast white rescue vehicles sounds very exciting to me!

Designing Video Games
Ryan
My older cousin actually gave me my first digital drawing tablet when I was a teenager, and that is why I chose this career. Designing the houses and streets is quite hard work, but I love doing it. I am also taking evening lessons to learn how to write the software that makes everything move on the screen. It is completely different from drawing! When I finish my shift, I usually watch a film because I am tired of looking at games.
Sofia
When I need new thoughts for my art, I never look at other video games. Instead, I walk in the forest and take photos of trees and animals to draw later. My absolute favourite thing to do is selecting the different bright paints for the background of a level. I do my job from home, and every morning I have video calls with designers in America and Japan. We share our work together. My brother loves testing the projects I finish!
Tyler
For me, the toughest part of the job is building the heroes and the bad guys. It takes many hours to get their faces exactly right! I sit in a small office with my team here in London, so we can all share a pizza at lunch. I don’t know how to do any of the coding, so I just focus on the art. At the weekend, I sit on my sofa and enjoy playing the titles I just finished drawing.

Our Dream Bookshop Café
Ben
I want to open a place full of old novels that other people have already finished reading. New copies can be very expensive! My dream is to have the shop next to the town gardens so customers can look out at the green trees. I’m not very good at cooking, so I won’t prepare the snacks myself. Instead, my older sister is going to start the company with me, as she makes amazing coffee. We want a loud, busy café where friends can chat, so it won’t be a great place to study.
Chloe
My idea is a beautiful shop where everything smells sweet! Instead of buying desserts from a factory, my plan is to mix sugar and flour and put them in the oven every morning. I want people to stay for hours, so finding soft sofas and big armchairs is my main goal. Hard, wooden chairs are terrible! I don’t want to sell novels that someone else owned before, so everything on our shelves will be completely new. Some owners invite popular authors to give talks, but I just want normal people from my street to come.
Dan
Opening a bookshop café by myself is my future plan. I don’t want to work with my cousins or parents! I hope to invite men and women who create popular stories to come and read their chapters aloud to our guests. That would be amazing! Also, I know how hard it is to focus at home. Because of this, I will build a silent room in the back for teenagers who need to finish their school projects. I don’t really care about buying expensive soft seats. I think having excellent coffee is much more important.
