Ten Years of Digital Creation

Marcus

I have been a media strategist for ten years. When I started, I was quite bad at planning my day, so I often missed deadlines. I had to learn how to focus. Now, I love that no two days are the same; I always have a new challenge. I also love the advanced cameras and software I have today; they produce perfect results that were impossible to get a decade ago. It is an exciting field, but you have to work hard to stay up to date.

Sarah

Ten years ago, I started as a content creator with zero knowledge of the industry. I remember feeling lost, but I have gained so much experience since then. One big part of my job is building relationships with other experts; it makes everything easier when you have a good network. My work speed has improved a lot, too. Using modern tools, I can finish in an hour what used to take me all day. I do have to be very professional when people are unhappy with my ideas, though.

Elena

As a strategist, I spend a lot of time helping people improve their online presence. It took me a long time to learn how to handle people who are not easy to please—it is a difficult part of the job. When I look back at my first year, I realize I knew almost nothing! Now, the technology is so much better that it takes me a fraction of the time to create a campaign. I really love meeting new people and solving problems in this fast-moving business.

Making Professional Online Videos

Mark

Making videos for the internet is my full-time job now. People think you need a huge, expensive camera to be successful, but I just use the smart device I call my friends with. It takes amazing pictures! Sound is very important, so I always close my windows and ask my family not to talk while I am working. I don’t go outside to film. The hardest part isn’t planning the story; it’s what happens on my computer later. Putting all the short clips together into one film usually takes me two whole days!

Sarah

I make cooking videos from my kitchen. I don’t use a phone because my dad gave me his old professional camera. Before I press ‘record’, I spend three or four days just writing down my ideas and choosing the recipes. Having a good map of what to say is the most important thing! Last month, I went to the electronics shop and spent a lot of cash on some bright lamps. Now, my food looks much more delicious on screen. Fixing the video on my laptop is actually really quick.

Tom

My channel is all about mountain biking and exploring nature. Because of this, my background is always the forest or the park, never a dark room! It can be quite noisy with the wind, so I wear a small microphone on my t-shirt. I don’t write down a plan; I just get on my bike and ride. I can’t cycle and hold the camera at the same time. Luckily, my best friend holds the equipment and follows me everywhere. We work really well together, and we always share the money we make.

Future Travel Journalists

Liam

I really want to be a travel journalist when I am older. My parents often describe wonderful cities they saw in the past, and that gives me brilliant ideas for my future tickets! When I explore, I don’t write many notes in a diary. Instead, I always use my phone to make my own little movies of everything that happens! I want to share those clips on the internet. I only speak English at the moment, so I hope people understand me when I go abroad. I don’t want to study grammar if I don’t have to!

Sophie

Exploring the world is my biggest dream. I know some journalists love holding a camera, but I don’t enjoy recording clips at all. For me, discovering new countries is all about the locals. I really enjoy chatting with men and women in the streets to hear their life stories. To do this well, I believe you must understand other ways of talking, like Spanish or French. How else can you ask them questions? One day, I hope to put all my adventures together into hundreds of printed pages for people to buy and read.

Carlo

My family prefers staying at home during the holidays, but I want to fly across the globe. However, I don’t want to visit famous capital cities where thousands of holidaymakers go. I want to find small, quiet villages that nobody knows about. Because I want to do this as a job, I am getting ready for it right now. Every weekend, I take the train to a new town near my house and type a short article about it for my website. I don’t want to make a huge printed text, just quick online posts.
