Buying a Second-Hand Bicycle
Liam
I wanted a second-hand bike for school. The local market is huge, so I walked around for nearly three hours before I saw one I liked. Most of them were too big for me. Finally, I found a fantastic dark blue one. It was so beautiful I knew I had to get it! Before I gave the man my cash, I cycled around the car park for five minutes to make sure everything worked perfectly. My mum was surprised I didn’t get a helmet, but I already have one at home.
Noah
I went to the bicycle market on Saturday. My dad drove me there because it is quite far from our house. He knows a lot about bikes, so his advice was very useful while we looked at lots of options. We saw a red one, but I didn’t really like the style. I finally bought a silver mountain bike. The price was completely fixed, so we couldn’t change it. When we arrived home, the wheels were covered in black mud, so I used some soap and water to make it shine.
Oliver
I really needed a cheap bike for the summer holidays. The market in my town is brilliant. I found exactly what I wanted in just ten minutes! It was quite clean, so I could ride it straight away. The man wanted sixty pounds for it, but I talked to him and we agreed on fifty. I was so happy I saved some money! I also needed a strong lock to keep the bike safe in the street, so I purchased one from the same seller before leaving.

Drivers discuss new electric car charging stations
Ben
I drive an electric car every day, and I’ve noticed so many more charging points appearing in our town over the last few months. It’s a huge improvement! My favorite one is right outside the supermarket, so I just plug in, do my weekly shopping, and by the time I come out, the car is full. It’s perfect because I don’t have to waste any time waiting. I know some of my friends find the price is a bit high, but I don’t mind paying for that level of speed.
Sarah
I usually charge my vehicle at work. My company put in some new points in our car park last summer, so I leave my car there while I’m at my desk. It’s ideal for me. However, the system isn’t perfect. Twice last week, I arrived to find all the spaces were already taken by other people. I had to drive around the city for ages until I found an empty one. It’s definitely getting popular, but we need more of them as soon as possible!
Tom
I use the chargers in the city center quite often, but I’ve had some bad experiences. I once arrived at a station, plugged my car in, and nothing happened. The screen was black and it just wouldn’t start. It was really annoying. Also, the company that runs them recently changed their prices. It used to be very cheap, but now I’m spending much more cash than I used to. I’m thinking about charging at home more often to save money, even though it takes longer.

University Carpool
Liam
I think traveling together is a brilliant idea. Before this, I took the bus and did my university reading on the way. Now, I just chat with my friends in the passenger seat. I don’t actually own a vehicle, so I have to borrow my mum’s old car when it is my turn. Luckily, I only have to drive on Fridays. The other guys drive twice a week. When we arrive, we always leave the car on a quiet street near the library, so we don’t have to buy a ticket for it.
Noah
I love driving my own car on Mondays and Wednesdays, but sharing the journey has saved me a lot of cash. The only problem is that my friends aren’t always ready on time. Sometimes I have to sit in my car outside their houses for ten minutes before they come out! During the journey, we never listen to music. Instead, I put on my favorite downloaded audio programs about history or science. Also, I bought a special pass this term. It costs me money, but it lets us park right next to the science building.
Ethan
I was the one who told the guys we should travel together to stop spending so much money. Fuel was getting too expensive for us to drive alone every day. We are usually very good at being on time, so we never miss our morning classes. We used to play loud pop music on the radio, but I prefer it quiet now. Because I don’t have to drive every day, I can sit in the back and read my course books. Preparing for lessons on the way really improves my grades!
