Riding a Motorcycle in Heavy City Traffic
Marco
I ride my motorbike to work, but the city traffic is a big problem. There are so many buses and trucks on the road, and the smoke from their engines is terrible. I really hate breathing it in every morning! Also, when the rain falls, the streets become very slippery and dangerous. It is not an easy journey then. I make sure my lights are always on so people can look at me easily and I stay safe. I also bought a new helmet recently, but luckily it didn’t cost much money.
Liam
My commute into the town centre is very slow. I have to wake up and leave my house at 6:00 a.m. to avoid the worst traffic jams, which is terrible because I love sleeping! There are so many cars that I can never go fast. Stopping and moving again every few seconds makes my hands and arms really tired. Last week, another vehicle hit the back of my motorbike. I had to pay a huge amount of cash to a mechanic to get it working again. I don’t mind riding when it’s raining, actually, but the traffic is always horrible.
Hasan
Riding in the city can be quite stressful. The most frightening thing is that people in large vehicles often forget to check their mirrors. They change lanes suddenly without noticing my small bike, so I must always be careful! I usually travel to my office at nine o’clock, so I never get out of bed early. However, being stuck in slow traffic during the summer is horrible. Wearing my thick jacket and heavy boots keeps me safe, but my temperature gets far too high. I often have to drink lots of cold water when I arrive.

Exploring by Moped
Lucas
Renting a moped was the best way to see the island. I didn’t spend much money at all to get it for the whole week! My best friend came with me, and we drove everywhere. It was amazing because we didn’t see any other cars or buses on our journey. We could ride really safely. One day, we saw some wild horses near the beach. We just looked at them for a minute and kept driving. It was sunny every day, so a t-shirt and shorts were fine for the trip.
Chloe
I wanted to discover the mountains, so I rented a small moped. It cost a lot of cash, but I really wanted to do it. The journey started well, but then the engine just died completely in the middle of nowhere. I had to push it for two kilometres! Also, I forgot my map at the hotel. After someone helped me fix the engine, I took the wrong street and couldn’t find my way back to town until it was dark. I was wearing just a thin summer dress, so I was freezing!
Martin
I went to the island with my older brother, and we decided to get two mopeds. It wasn’t hot on the coast, so we had to put on thick jumpers and gloves before we started our engines. The streets were full of tourist buses, so we had to ride very slowly and carefully. During our trip, we noticed some beautiful birds in the trees. We turned off our mopeds and used our cameras to capture them. Luckily, our bikes were perfect and we had no mechanical issues at all!

Learning to Fix a Flat Tyre
Leo
Yesterday, my bicycle tyre went flat while I was resting in my garden. I didn’t know how to repair it, and my dad was at work, so he couldn’t help me. I found an old book about bikes and read the instructions. It wasn’t easy! I started after breakfast and it was almost dinner time when I finally finished. I also realised I didn’t have a pump to put air in the tyre, so I had to walk to the sports shop and spend my pocket money on one. My hands were black with dirt, but they didn’t hurt.
Mia
I was cycling around the lake with my friends when suddenly my front wheel stopped working. We were miles away from my house! My friend had a repair box in his bag, so I didn’t have to go to a shop to pay for any tools. None of us knew what to do, so I took out my phone and watched a short clip on a website. The video made it look so simple! I fixed it in just twenty minutes. I hope my tyre doesn’t break again, but I was proud of myself.
Sam
Last weekend, my back tyre was completely flat. My grandfather came to my garage to check it. He never uses computers to find information because he knows everything about fixing things! He stood next to me and explained each step slowly. Taking the tyre off the wheel was very hard work. I got a few cuts on my fingers, and they really ached when I went to bed that night. It wasn’t a quick job because I was a beginner. However, if it happens again, I know I will finish the whole thing in just a few minutes!
