A Charity Cycling Race

Leo

I wanted to collect money for a children’s hospital. I didn’t want to do the long trip alone, so my uncle came with me. We had a great time! My bicycle was quite new, so I didn’t have any problems with it. We had a good map, so we always knew where we were. The only bad thing was the storms. On the second day, water was pouring from the sky, so we had to wait in a café for three hours. The high hills looked frightening, but I actually enjoyed going up them!

Maya

My brother is a great cyclist, but he couldn’t do the race, so he let me borrow his mountain bike. It was perfect! We cycled for a charity that builds schools. The hardest part for me was going up the steep roads. My legs were so tired! It was cloudy and cold, but we never stopped riding. At one point, my group took a wrong turn in a forest. We spent an hour trying to find the correct path again! It was a long day, but I was so happy when we finished.

Sam

Before the race started, I went riding every day for two months to get fit. It was hard work, but I wanted to be ready. I bought a fantastic new bike for the trip, so I didn’t need to ask anyone for theirs. During the ride, we used an app on my phone, so we never went the wrong way. The best part was giving the cash we got to a group that looks after sick bears and birds. Next year, I hope my sister will join me, but this time I went with school friends.

Skateboard Accidents

Jamie

I was riding my skateboard to the park on Saturday. I wasn’t going very quickly, but the road was wet. Suddenly, my board slipped and I went down! A lovely woman walking her cat saw me and ran over to check if I was okay. She was really kind. I couldn’t move my wrist because it was very painful, so I couldn’t continue my journey. I just walked back to my house. It was a shame because my friends were waiting for me!

Carlos

I had a bad start to my weekend. I was taking my new camera to the park to get some photos of my friends. While I was skating, a small child ran in front of me. I stopped suddenly and fell into some dirty water. I didn’t injure my body, but my camera hit the ground and smashed into pieces. I was so sad! Also, my jeans and t-shirt were covered in mud, so I had to return to my bedroom and change them before going to meet the others.

Finn

Last week, I was skating down a big hill towards the park. I love speeding down that street, but I couldn’t stop! Then, a large dog ran out from a garden right into my path. I had to jump off my board to miss it. I landed on the grass. Luckily, my phone was in my pocket and it was completely fine. My older brother was walking nearby, and he came to pull me up. After that, we walked the rest of the way together. I think I need to skate more slowly next time!

Reviewing mountain bike helmets

Tom

I love mountain biking, so I need a good helmet. I saw the SafeRide model on the internet, but I actually bought it at my local bike shop. I had to wait three weeks for the shop to get it for me! It cost a lot of cash, but it is fantastic. The best thing is that it weighs almost nothing, so my neck never hurts after a long ride. It only comes in black, so it isn’t very colourful, but it protects my head very well.

Lisa

My old helmet was quite heavy and dark, so I wanted a new one. I didn’t want to visit the shops, so I bought my TrailStar helmet from a sports webpage. I was happy because it was at my house the very next day! I chose a model that is painted bright yellow and orange. This is great because drivers can see me easily when I cross the road. It was quite cheap, but unfortunately, it doesn’t come with any free accessories.

Mark

I ride my bike in the mountains every weekend, even in summer. My new AeroPro helmet has lots of large holes in the top. This lets the wind in, meaning my head never feels warm, even on sunny days. It wasn’t an expensive helmet, which is great. Also, the box included a free bag to keep the helmet inside! The only problem is the colour. It is dark grey, so it is hard to notice me in the forest at evening time.
