Our Fantastic Headteacher

Alex

Our headteacher, Mr. Davis, is fantastic. Every morning, he waits by the front gates to say hello before our first lesson starts. It makes everyone feel welcome. He is a very busy man, so he doesn’t remember what every teenager is called, but he is always smiling. My favourite thing is that he doesn’t just sit in his office. During break time, he often comes outside and enjoys kicking a football around with us on the grass. He doesn’t help us with our studies—that is our teachers’ job—but he is always fun to be around!

Ruby

I really admire our headteacher, Mrs. Smith. When I walk into the building, I often see her in the corridors. If we feel sad or have a big issue, her door is always open and she is completely ready to pay attention to what we say. Also, she sometimes comes into our classrooms. When I cannot understand a difficult maths topic, she patiently explains the numbers to me again. She loves watching us play basketball, but she never puts on trainers to play with us. She is just a very kind lady.

Ken

Mr. Brown is an amazing headteacher. There are over four hundred young people in our school, but he amazingly knows what every single pupil is called! I admire him because he cares a lot about our future. In our final year, he often has meetings with us to share ideas about what kind of work we could do when we grow up. If we get top marks in our exams, he even hands out special gifts to say ‘well done’. If we ever feel upset, we usually go to the school nurse, but Mr. Brown is always friendly.

Meeting Friends on a Language Course

Emma

During my language course in London, I met a wonderful girl from Italy called Rosa. I usually love talking, but on the first day, I was quite nervous about making grammar mistakes. I just stayed quiet! But Rosa smiled and helped me, and soon we chatted for hours. Rosa is excellent at tennis, but I hate exercising, so I just watched her play matches. We still chat on the internet, maybe once or twice a month. Next summer, I already have my flight tickets to visit Rome to stay with her family. I can’t wait!

Julian

I did a two-week English course in Canada. I really wanted a roommate to practice my speaking, but the school gave me a private bedroom. In my classes, I sat next to Kenji from Japan. At first, the way he said things was very different from mine, and I couldn’t catch his words. But after a few days, listening became much easier. We both loved being active, so every afternoon we went to the beach and played volleyball together. We are great mates now! We use our smartphones to text each other every single morning.

Sofia

I went to a language camp in Scotland. When I arrived, I was very happy because I wasn’t sleeping alone. I shared a space with a lovely girl named Clara, who came all the way from Argentina! Clara spoke English perfectly, so we never had problems communicating. I invited Clara to come and stay at my house next winter. One evening at the camp, she bought some meat and rice and made an amazing traditional dinner for me. I never knew South American dishes tasted so good!

Our Friendly Morning Bus Driver

Oscar

Our morning bus driver, Mr. Evans, is brilliant. He is always on time, so you cannot be slow, or he will go without you! When we get on, he always turns on the radio so we can enjoy the newest pop hits. It really wakes me up! Last week, I couldn’t find my heavy winter jacket after school. I was so worried. But Mr. Evans saw it on a chair and kept it safe for me until the next morning. He doesn’t bring us treats to eat, but he is still the best!

Ruby

I travel to school with a wonderful driver called Tom. His vehicle is very quiet inside because he never turns on any songs. He isn’t a very funny man, but he is so kind. For example, if he sees me running down the street, he doesn’t drive away. He always stops the engine and gives me time to get on. Also, when I am upset about a difficult homework project, I ask for his thoughts, and his answers are always so helpful. And if it is your birthday, he always brings you a lovely chocolate bar!

James

Mr. Smith drives our bus every morning. I never speak to him about my school problems, but he is a fantastic person. On Monday mornings, he always asks what we did on Saturday and Sunday. He wants to know if we played any interesting sports or visited our grandparents! During the journey, he tells us silly stories about his pet dog. We never stop smiling until we get to our classrooms! I wish he could help when we forget things, though. My friend left his math book on the bus, and we never found it again.
