The Best Neighbors in the World

Julian

Our neighbor, Mr. Henderson, is brilliant. If our television or the washing machine stops working, he always comes over with his tools and makes them work again. He is very clever with his hands! Also, whenever my family goes away for the weekend, he visits our house twice a day to give food and water to our two cats. He doesn’t bake us any sweet things because he isn’t very good in the kitchen, but that’s okay. We have a big garden with lots of vegetables, so my parents usually give him some tomatoes to say thank you.

Chloe

Mrs. Davis lives next door to us and she is such a kind lady. She doesn’t own a vehicle, so she never takes me to the sports centre, but she helps in other ways. She spends a lot of time outside, and she often brings us baskets of lovely green apples and carrots that she planted herself. Also, when we travel to the beach every summer, she makes sure our property is safe and collects all our letters. We don’t have any pets for her to feed, but she loves making amazing chocolate biscuits for us to eat!

Marco

We are very lucky to live next to Mr. Rossi. My mum works late on Thursdays, so he always lets me ride in his vehicle to get to my football practice on time. He is a retired teacher, so when I can’t understand my history or science homework, he sits with me and explains the difficult parts. It really improves my marks! He travels quite often, so he isn’t here to watch our apartment when we go on holiday. Also, he doesn’t know how to use tools, so my dad has to mend things when they break.

Working with the Best Shop Assistant

Tom

I always loved shopping at ‘Music World’. Last month, David, the friendliest worker there, said they needed more staff and that I should join the team. It was a great idea! On my first day, I had no idea how to operate the machine at the checkout. David patiently showed me which buttons to press. He also explained which shelves the new CDs go on, so the store stays tidy. I dropped my jacket yesterday, but I found it myself. David doesn’t bring us cakes, but he is still the best!

Nina

Working at our local clothing store is fun, mostly because of our senior assistant, Elena. She is incredibly nice to everyone. Sometimes, people come in and complain about a shirt or a dress. Even when they shout, Elena never gets angry or raises her voice. I want to be that polite! I already knew how to use the till before I started, so she didn’t need to teach me that. One thing I love is that she bakes biscuits and shares them with us in the staff room on Saturdays.

Ben

I recently started a weekend job at my favorite bookshop. A senior assistant named John works there. He is on his feet for eight hours every shift, but his smile never leaves his face, no matter how tired he feels. He is also very honest and kind. Last weekend, my mobile phone fell out of my pocket while I was carrying heavy boxes. John saw it on the floor and returned it to me immediately. I found my own job online, so John didn’t help me with that, but he is brilliant to work with.

A Special Guest Speaker

Toby

Yesterday, a vet came to our class. He talked about taking care of ill dogs and cats. It sounded like a very difficult career! He didn’t have any movies to play on the screen, but he told some great stories. I always thought this kind of work didn’t pay well. However, when he explained how much he gets every month, I was shocked! The pay is actually very high. He said he sometimes travels to farms, but he usually stays in our town. I think I would prefer to be a doctor for people.

Nina

An engineer visited our school this morning. I loved his presentation! He passed around some cool items he uses every day to build bridges. It was amazing to hold them in my hands. He didn’t talk about earning money, but he gave us tips on the best classes to take right now, like maths and science, if we want to build things in the future. We didn’t talk about animals at all. I enjoyed it so much that I plan to do this exact work when I finish university!

Oscar

We listened to a famous journalist speak today. He wrote stories for a big newspaper. Because of his job, he flew to lots of places across the globe, from Brazil to Japan. To help us understand his daily life, he put a quick movie on the board for us to watch. It looked very exciting! He didn’t mention anything about school lessons or what we should learn. Even though his talk was interesting, I don’t want to become a journalist. I would rather be a teacher!
