To protect our history, guests must stay behind the ropes and keeping your hands off the structures is mandatory. When you get hungry, relax in our restaurant serving delicious cooked meals.
C The Emperor’s House
The Emperor’s House contains highly delicate mosaics. Because these stones are so easily damaged, handling any of the historical remains is strictly against the rules. Before leaving, stop by our excellent visitor centre to get fantastic presents. We provide a large, safe area outside to leave your personal vehicles.
D The Twin Villas
The Twin Villas offer a fantastic look at early Roman engineering, featuring beautiful roof designs and strong stone walls. You can find wonderful small presents in our modern retail corner. Please note that we are far from any bus stops, and there are absolutely no spaces for cars outside.
E The Star Bathhouse
Admire the incredible layout of the Star Bathhouse, famous for its perfect mathematical design and beautiful stone arches. We protect these fragile areas carefully, so physical contact with the walls is completely banned. We welcome guests until 10 p.m., making it the perfect destination for an after-work historical evening.
F The Grand Palace
The Grand Palace is famous for its massive columns and clever room layouts. You can easily see how the Romans planned their buildings. To preserve the site, feeling or handling the ancient stones is not allowed. Don’t forget to visit our commercial area to purchase some wonderful historical reminders.
G The Roman Garden Experience
The Roman Garden Experience is a beautiful outdoor area where Romans once grew their food. While there are no buildings or stone structures to look at here, you can enjoy a hot lunch in our dining room. Please keep a safe distance from the fragile ancient plants and fences at all times.
H The Interactive Roman Baths
The Interactive Roman Baths let you explore ancient building techniques in a totally new way! We actively encourage our visitors to physically handle the ancient bricks and feel the textures of the columns. We stay open well into the night, allowing you to experience the beautiful structures under the stars.

Our estate has a magnificent environment zone featuring unusual flowers and ancient trees from around the world. Guests arriving by car can use our large complimentary vehicle lot outside the gates. Once you finish your nature walk, our cosy restaurant serves warm dishes and hot soups all afternoon inside the old castle walls.
C Highland Castle Grounds
Located just a two-minute walk from the railway platforms, this palace park is easy to visit without a car. We offer expert walks led by our helpful staff, so you can learn about the history without reading any signs. The tour goes through deep fields where large groups of elegant deer live naturally.
D Valley Palace Park
Perfect for students doing environmental studies, our long footpaths include helpful notices detailing the wildlife and trees around you. The castle’s old guardroom is now a souvenir boutique which is full of science books and colourful wall charts to take home. Please note that all visitors must arrive by public bus.
E Stonehill Estate
We are open exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. Take a stroll through our wide valleys to photograph the beautiful wild ponies that live on the hills. We do not have a cafeteria, but we provide plenty of outdoor tables where you can enjoy your packed lunches under the trees.
F Meadowbrook Castle
Come and see the magnificent wild horses running through our fields. We have a fantastic grass area with tables where families can sit and eat their own food. Our woodland paths are open from Monday to Friday only, as we are completely closed on weekends for private events.
G The Royal Keep
Our famous glasshouses are perfect for learning about rare forest plants and exotic trees. We offer a large car park which costs nothing for visitors to use. Please bring your own drinks and snacks, as our castle kitchen and dining rooms are currently closed for building repairs this season.
H Riverfront Tower
Situated next to the town’s railway station, this ancient site is very simple to reach. Our expert guides lead wonderful daily walks to help you understand the history of the buildings. The surrounding park focuses entirely on protecting rare birds and butterflies, so please note there are no large mammals or deer here.

Visitors must be prepared to go up many narrow, nearly vertical steps, but the incredible views from the roof are truly worth the effort. Afterwards, browse our ground-floor shop selling delicious regional honey, cheese, and sweet treats.
B Riverstone Mill
Watch the powerful river push our giant wooden machinery outside. The entire site is completely flat, meaning guests who use wheelchairs or struggle with climbing can explore all the indoor exhibits with ease. When you get hungry, head to our cozy restaurant which serves delicious soups and warm traditional dishes daily.
C The Old Granary
Perfect for families, our interactive indoor displays let you use heavy stones to crush grain into fine powder yourself. While parents relax on the beautiful green lawns with their packed lunches, younger visitors can burn off some energy on the excellent outdoor climbing frames, slides, and wooden swings nearby.
D Windy Hill Tower
Photographers will love capturing perfect images of the huge, white sails on this classic structure. Inside, our bakers use traditional ovens to create fantastic cakes and warm loaves every morning for visitors to purchase. We also provide a massive free space outside for vehicles of all sizes, including tourist coaches.
E Starlight Watermill
Join one of our knowledgeable experts who will lead you around and share fascinating tales about the people who worked here centuries ago. Our doors welcome guests until 9 p.m. every day. Before heading home, remember to visit our small boutique to pick up beautiful handmade necklaces, mugs, or postcards.
F High Tower Mill
Come learn about the fascinating past of this ancient structure on an interesting guided walk. Guests must be physically fit, as reaching the top involves climbing lots of difficult, high ladders. Unfortunately, we close our doors promptly at 4 p.m. daily, so late afternoon or night visits are not possible.
G Valley Waterworks
See the fast-moving stream turn our historic wooden wheels in the valley. We offer a wonderful store filled with fantastic regional vegetables, jams, and fresh farm milk. However, exploring the inside of the building requires walking up several flights of steep stairs, making it completely unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
H Heritage Bakers
Put on an apron and have fun turning raw wheat into baking ingredients using our interactive wooden tools. You can even buy the warm, tasty loaves our staff make on-site. Please note, we are located on a tiny pedestrian street, so visitors must arrive by train as there is nowhere for cars.
