Exploring Ancient Ruins with Guidebooks

Leo

Last week, my family visited some old Roman buildings. I bought a small travel book to help us. The best thing was that the book had special discount codes inside, so we didn’t have to pay full price for our entrance tickets! I love taking photos of the old stones with my phone, but my travel book didn’t have any images in it. One bad thing was trying to find our way around the area. The drawing of the streets was really confusing, and we got lost twice. Next time, I will just ask a tour guide.

Maya

I love learning about ancient places. My uncle knows this, so he bought me a fantastic travel book for my birthday. It is full of amazing photographs of old Greek temples, and I spend hours just looking at them. The guidebook is quite thick and heavy, so I don’t carry it with me when we walk around the actual ruins. Instead, I always study the information at home before our holiday begins. That way, I already know everything about the history! The book was quite expensive, but it is really useful.

Finn

When we went to see the ancient pyramids, I wanted to learn all about them. I didn’t want to carry a heavy paper book, so I downloaded a digital copy on my tablet. It was so easy to carry around all day! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I found an older version online that another tourist sold for just a few pounds. It was perfectly fine! The directions inside were very clear, and we never got lost. I told my friend to get one, and he bought a brand new one.

Taking Beautiful Travel Photos

Ryan

I love travelling and taking photos. To get the best shots, I always leave my hotel as soon as the sun comes up, long before I have my toast and juice. The morning light is beautiful then. I never let anyone else hold my smartphone because it is very expensive, so I take all the pictures myself. When I return to my room in the evening, I always use a special program on my tablet to make the skies look brighter and the grass greener. It makes a big difference to my holiday memories!

Emma

My top advice for smartphone photography is very simple. I always carry a soft cloth to wipe the glass on the back of my device. Removing the dirt makes every picture completely clear! I don’t like changing the colours on a computer later; I prefer them to look natural. My favourite subjects are the men and women working in local markets or cafes. However, if I want to photograph a famous building, I always wait patiently for the large groups of visitors to walk away so there is nobody in the way.

Noah

Taking photos with a mobile phone is so much fun. I usually go out late at night to get pictures of the dark city streets, rather than waking up early. My hands often shake, so I always carry a small plastic stand in my bag. I rest my phone on it to keep it perfectly still while I take the photo. I love taking pictures of cool bridges and fast cars. If I want to be in the picture too, I just give my device to a friendly stranger and ask them to help!
