Across the Country by Train

Mateo

I took the train to visit my grandparents in the south. It was a very long trip! I got on late in the evening and went to sleep. I finally woke up when we arrived the next morning. My chair was really soft, so I rested well. I didn’t bring any snacks with me, but that was fine. I bought a hot chicken dish from the train café, and it was absolutely delicious! I usually talk to people, but this time I was tired and just listened to music. It was also a cheap way to travel, which is great for a student like me.

Nadia

I went across the country by train with my sister last month. We travelled all afternoon. Watching the beautiful forests and lakes go past was definitely my favourite part! We brought our own sandwiches and water, so we didn’t buy any food on board. We had seats near the door, and we started chatting with a nice family sitting opposite us. They told us funny stories about their holidays. The whole trip took about four hours, but we reached our station much earlier than I guessed. I loved every minute of it!

Oliver

I often catch the train to go to the capital city. Sadly, my last journey was not very good. To begin with, I had to pay a very high price for my ticket. Then, the train was late leaving the station. When I finally found my place, the back of it was broken, so I couldn’t relax at all. The people near me were very loud, so I just read my book instead of looking out of the window. I wanted to get a hot drink, but the café was closed all day! Next time, I will probably go by bus.

Relaxing in Nature

Alex

During the summer, my absolute favorite thing is camping in the hills. I never ride my bike there; going on foot is the best way to see everything. Some people like spending time by the river, but that water is too fast and noisy for me. I prefer the quiet sounds of the forest, so I never bring my phone to play audio tracks. In the evening, I eat the cold sandwiches I brought from home. Then, when it is dark, I lie on the grass and watch the tiny bright lights in the sky until I fall asleep.

Ben

When school finishes, I often ride my bicycle to a large forest near my town. I love my friends, but when I need to rest, I always go by myself. It is much better when nobody is talking to you! I usually find a comfortable place under a big tree, put on my headphones, and enjoy my favorite pop bands. I sometimes use my camera to get photos of the birds, but I am terrible at using a pencil to make pictures. I never stay in the forest when it gets dark; I always go back to my house to sleep.

Carla

My family and I always go to a beautiful lake in July. We sit on the grass and stay there all day. I usually bring my colored pencils and some paper. Creating beautiful pictures of the trees and animals is so relaxing for me! We never take cold sandwiches with us for the trip. Instead, my parents build a small fire and we cook sausages and potatoes for our evening meal. It is much better than eating inside a restaurant! When the sun goes down, we get in our car and drive back to the city.

Exploring New Cities and Trying Local Food

Lucas

When I travel to a new town, I always want to try the traditional dishes. I use my mobile phone to look at maps, but I just walk into any cafe I see. I don’t care about desserts like chocolate or cake at all. Instead, I always ask the waiter for plates with lots of chili that will make my mouth burn! Sometimes I go out to eat very late at night. The best part is that I usually only pay a few pounds for a huge plate of food, so I keep my money in my pocket.

Mia

Exploring new streets is my favourite hobby. I love leaving my hotel as soon as the sun comes up to find a nice breakfast. I never know where to go, so I always stop men and women on the street and ask them for their favourite spots. I don’t like sitting down inside a quiet restaurant. I prefer buying snacks from small markets outside and enjoying them on my feet while I visit famous buildings. The food is sometimes quite expensive, but it is always delicious and very fresh!

Oliver

I really enjoy taking trips to different cities in my country. I always walk everywhere, but when it is time for lunch, I need to sit down at a table inside. Before I choose a place to sit, I spend time looking at websites on my screen to see what other visitors say about it. I completely avoid strong flavours, so I never order anything with hot peppers. I just love traditional meat and potatoes. After I finish that, I always order a large slice of fruit pie or ice cream to finish the meal!
