A Different Kind of Homework

Fourteen-year-old Daniel usually does his French homework in ten minutes. However, this weekend, his teacher, Mr. Thomas, gave the class a different kind of assignment. They didn’t have to write a long story or read a difficult book. Instead, every student had to record a short video on their smartphone, talking about their favourite hobbies in French.

On Saturday morning, Daniel got ready. First, he cleaned his bedroom because he wanted it to look nice on the camera. Then, he wrote some useful words on a piece of paper to help him remember. He felt quite nervous. He is very good at reading French, but he often makes mistakes when he speaks.

Daniel put his phone on his desk and started recording. The first time, he spoke very well, but his little sister suddenly opened the door and asked him a loud question. He had to stop. The second time, he completely forgot the French word for “cinema” and stopped again. He started to feel a bit angry.

Finally, on his third try, everything went perfectly. Daniel spoke clearly for two whole minutes and didn’t look at his notes at all. He watched the video and felt extremely pleased with his work. He quickly emailed the assignment to Mr. Thomas. Now, Daniel is hoping to get an excellent mark next week.
