Our Full Garages

Mark

Our garage is completely full of old broken beds and chairs. We definitely cannot drive our car inside anymore! It’s very annoying because my dad needs the area to fix his motorbike at the weekends, so we have to share the little room that’s left. Next weekend, I am going to take all this rubbish to the town dump. I know some people sell things on the internet, but these items are so bad that nobody will pay for them. I will be happy to see the empty floor again!

Sarah

When my grandmother moved to a smaller flat, she gave us two large sofas and a heavy wooden table. We put them straight into the garage. Because of this, my mum and dad have to park outside on the street. They are not very happy about it! However, I don’t want to just throw these beautiful pieces into the bin. Instead, my plan is to take some photos of them and look for buyers online. I hope to earn enough cash to buy a new guitar.

David

Our garage hasn’t had a car in it for years. My granddad used to park his old vehicle there, but now it is full of huge bookshelves and cupboards. Actually, I don’t mind that the car is on the driveway. The thick wood of the cupboards makes the room very quiet, so it is the perfect place for me to practice my drums without making my parents angry! I also leave my football boots and tennis rackets next to the cupboards so I can grab them easily.

Decorating for a Family Party

Alice

My parents’ anniversary party was amazing, but preparing for it was stressful. I wanted to put bright paper shapes all over the ceiling, but I just ran out of minutes. The visitors actually knocked on the door while I was still working! Luckily, my little boys and girls were great. They painted some wonderful welcome signs and put them on the front door to help me. I didn’t spend much cash, as we already had most things at home. We didn’t use any fresh plants, but the room still looked very colourful and happy.

Ben

I wanted my wife’s birthday meal to be incredibly special. I decided to make our lounge look exactly like a five-star restaurant! I bought twenty beautiful glass pieces for the tables. Everything was gorgeous, but it definitely wasn’t cheap. The shop bill was over three hundred euros! To make the space feel calm, I didn’t use the normal big overhead lights. Instead, I placed small, warm electric candles everywhere. My teenage brother offered to help me prepare, but I wanted to do it all independently. It took hours, but she loved it.

Clara

When my family visited for the summer holidays, I wanted the house to look beautiful. I went into my backyard and cut lots of yellow roses and tall grass. I put them in glass bowls on every table. It smelled lovely! Also, I wanted everyone to remember fun times, so I found lots of old images of my aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I attached these memories all over the walls. It didn’t cost anything to do this! My young sister wanted to change the bright ceiling lights, but I told her they were fine.

Replacing Our Old Carpets

Harry

My parents decided to pull up the carpets in my bedroom. I really loved that soft blue rug we had before, so I was actually quite sad when they put it in the bin! The new wooden boards look very modern, but I have a problem. During the winter, I have to wear thick socks because the bottom of my feet get freezing! I didn’t help my dad put the wood down because I was at school. My mum says washing it is very fast, but I miss my old room.

Maya

Last month, my parents changed the floors in our hallway. Getting rid of the dirty old carpet was a great idea. However, the shop asked for a lot of cash for the new wooden boards, so it was definitely not a cheap project! The wood is fantastic because brushing and washing it only takes me five minutes. With the carpet, I spent hours trying to make it spotless. The only bad thing is that when my brother runs downstairs, you can hear his feet hitting the wood everywhere in the house!

Connor

We recently removed our living room carpet. My parents wanted to save some money, so instead of paying a worker, my father and I put the wooden boards down together. It was hard work, but we had fun! The dark carpet always made our sitting room feel tiny, but now, with the light brown wood, the whole area feels incredibly huge! I completely love it. It isn’t freezing to walk on because the sun shines on it all afternoon. It is also completely silent when you step on it.
