Meeting My Best Friend

Alice

I first met my best friend, Sarah, three years ago. My cousin invited her over to my house for the weekend. I felt quite worried before she arrived because I didn’t know her at all and I am a quiet person. But she was very friendly! We go to the same college now, but our first conversation was actually in my living room, not during a lesson. We drank some cold juice and talked for hours, though we didn’t have any snacks. We have been close ever since that day.

Ben

I remember the exact day I met David. We were at the local park. I was kicking a football around by myself and he asked to play. He looked a little nervous to ask me, but I was happy to say yes. We had a great time running around all afternoon. After the game, I gave him half of my cheese sandwich because he was hungry. I knew straight away that we would be great mates. We didn’t meet through our brothers or sisters; we just loved the same games!

Charlie

Leo and I are best mates and we play basketball together every weekend now. However, when we first met during a maths lesson, things were different. He sat next to me and talked a lot. To be honest, I thought he wasn’t very nice and I didn’t want to spend time with him! But later that afternoon, I couldn’t see my jacket anywhere. Leo stayed to help me look everywhere until we got it back. That changed my mind completely. He was actually really kind, and we started chatting after that.

Fixing Problems with Friends

Alice

I hate it when my friends and I don’t agree. If I do something wrong, I say sorry straight away. I never wait to fix things! However, speaking about my feelings face-to-face can be hard. So, instead of talking, I usually send a long text on my phone to explain everything. My parents tell me to just speak to them, but I don’t do that. Sometimes, I also use my pocket money to get some chocolates or a book for my friend. When they see the nice thing I bought, we are usually happy again!

Ben

When my best friend and I have a fight, I get very angry. I don’t want to chat quickly because I need a few days to feel quiet inside again. After I feel better, we can have a normal conversation. I don’t type messages on my computer to fix things; I like to use my voice. Usually, I speak to my dad about the problem. He gives me brilliant ideas about what I should do. I never use my cash to get my friend a toy or sweets because talking is completely free!

Charlie

My friends and I are usually very close, but sometimes we get angry with each other. I don’t ask my mum or dad for help because they just tell me to be good! When we are unhappy, I usually try to tell a silly story. Making my mate smile is the best way to fix a bad day. I also like to ask them to come to my house and enjoy some online video matches or kick a football in the park. Having a fun time together helps us leave our bad feelings in the past.

Finding the Perfect Study Partner

Alice

Finding the right person to do homework with is important. I prefer studying late at night, so I need someone who stays awake! The most important thing for me is finding a classmate who can make hard topics easy to understand. Science is really tough for me! I also like it when my friend gives me a little quiz at the end of the evening to see what I actually remember. I often use my smartphone to search for information online, so I don’t mind if my partner uses theirs to help us find facts quickly.

Ben

I usually work on my assignments at the weekend. I always want to finish everything before lunch, so my perfect partner is someone who likes getting up at a good hour. I hate it when people look at screens all the time, so they must leave their mobile in their pocket or bag! Some people like having a very clean space, but my books and papers are usually quite messy. It’s great if my friend brings some cookies or apples for us both to eat because we usually work for three hours without stopping!

Carla

When I prepare for exams, I can’t look at my books for hours and hours. I need a friend who agrees to close the books and stop for a few minutes to chat. It helps my brain! Also, my desk is always perfect, with pens and paper in the right place. I look for a partner who keeps their things clean and organised, too. I always bring my own water to drink, so my partner doesn’t have to share anything. If we don’t understand our maths homework, we usually write down things to ask our teacher the next day.
