Finishing a Charity Run
Emma
I wanted to help a local animal hospital, so I decided to enter the 5km run. I didn’t want to go alone, so my older brother entered with me. We trained together every evening. On the morning of the event, it was raining heavily and the wind was very strong, which meant our legs felt very heavy and slow. I didn’t buy any new trainers because my old ones are really comfortable. When we finally crossed the finish line, I felt amazing, but I didn’t want to go to bed. I just wanted to eat a huge pizza!
Liam
Before the race, I hoped to collect fifty pounds for a children’s charity. But my friends and teachers gave me over two hundred pounds! It was a fantastic surprise. My parents came to watch, but they didn’t run with me because they prefer walking. The 5km path was quite flat and sunny. I am proud of myself, but five kilometres is enough for me. I don’t want to try ten kilometres next year! When I got back to my house after the race, I immediately lay down on the sofa and slept for three hours.
Chloe
I love running, so this charity event was perfect for me. The hospital I ran for only got a little bit of money from my friends, but I was still happy. I wanted to look good, so I went to the sports shop and spent my pocket money on a bright yellow running shirt. During the race, my legs felt full of energy. I crossed the end line in under thirty minutes. I usually take forty minutes, so I was amazed by my speed! Because I enjoyed it so much, I am going to enter a ten-kilometre event next summer.

Climbing Stairs for a Healthy Heart
Leo
I stopped using the lift a few months ago. Walking up is great for my heart! I always look at a special app on my phone to see the total amount of stairs I do every day. My best friend thinks I am crazy because he always waits for the lift, so I do it alone. I always put on my favourite pop bands to make the journey up more fun. I usually walk, but I only use the machine that goes up when I have large boxes from the supermarket. It is too hard otherwise!
Maya
Last year, the person at the local hospital told me my heart needed more exercise. Because of that, I stopped using the elevator at my block of flats. I don’t care about numbers, so I never use my watch to see how far I go. It was difficult at first, but now my body is much stronger. I actually don’t feel sleepy in the afternoons anymore! It is great. Some people like loud tracks while they walk, but I enjoy the quiet, so I don’t use headphones. I just listen to my own breathing.
Sam
My home is on the twelfth level, which is a very long way up! However, I decided to stop taking the lift because stepping up and down is an easy way to keep my heart healthy. A boy from my school lives in the same place, so we chat and go up together. It is much better than doing it by myself! Even when I have my heavy school backpack, I never take the lift. We don’t have to visit a sports centre because climbing gives us all the daily fitness we need.

Healthy Eating and a Strict Workout Schedule
Leo
I go running four times a week. I don’t like sports halls at all, so I always do my fitness routine in the park under the trees. It’s much nicer than being inside a building! On the days when I stay at home and rest, I usually eat much larger plates of food than usual. When I train, I often forget to have enough liquids, which is a bad habit. I know some people like eating an apple before they run, but I only have sweet things like that after I finish. I wake up at 6 a.m. to run, but I always have lots of energy!
Sarah
To stay fit, I give money to a professional instructor who plans my gym sessions. She is great, but she makes me start my workouts at 5 a.m. Because I leave my bed so soon, I often feel very tired by the afternoon and need a long rest. About twenty minutes before I begin my fitness routine, I always have a banana. It gives me the power I need! I go to the gym every day, even on Sundays. I don’t cook all my dishes for the week at once because I prefer making fresh dinners every evening.
David
My workout schedule is very strict, so I spend all of Sunday afternoon making my breakfasts and lunches for the next seven days. It saves me so much time! A very important part of my health plan is having at least eight large glasses of liquid daily. Keeping my bottle full is just as important as lifting weights. I buy a monthly ticket for a large fitness center because I hate exercising in the rain or cold weather. I never hire anyone to teach me; I just watch free videos on the internet to learn how to do things right.
