The Secret Bookshop
Leo is a high school student who loves reading. However, new books are usually very expensive. Because of this, he often borrows stories from the town library or reads on his tablet. Last Tuesday, it started to rain heavily after school, so Leo decided to walk home down a different, narrower street.
While he was running from the rain, he saw a tiny, dark door between a café and a baker’s. He pushed the door open to stay dry. Inside, it was warm and quiet. He couldn’t believe his eyes! There were thousands of old books everywhere, from the floor to the ceiling. It smelled like old paper and coffee.
An old man with glasses smiled at him. ‘Welcome to my bookshop,’ he said. His name was Mr. Silva. He showed Leo around and gave him a very old, rare comic book to look at. Then, Leo found a classic adventure novel. When he asked how much it cost, he was surprised. The price was so low!
Now, Leo visits the hidden shop every Friday afternoon. It is his favourite place in the whole city. He recently told his best friend, Sam, about the amazing shop. They agreed not to tell anyone else because they want to keep it as their special secret.

The Snack Problem
My name is Tom, and I am fourteen years old. Every month, my parents give me some pocket money. This month, I decided to be very careful with my cash. I really wanted to buy a new pair of headphones, so I planned to save half of my money.
For the first week, everything was perfect. I didn’t buy anything. But then, I started walking home from school with my friends. We usually stopped at a small supermarket. I bought a cold drink, some chocolate, or a bag of crisps almost every afternoon. It was only a little money each time, so I didn’t worry about it.
However, at the end of the month, I opened my money box. I was shocked! I only had five pounds left. I couldn’t buy my headphones. I sat down and looked at my spending notes. I quickly understood the problem. All those small snacks after school cost a lot of money together.
I felt a bit silly, but I learned a good lesson. Next month, I will do things differently. I am going to bring some fruit and biscuits from home in my school bag. This means I can still eat with my friends after school, but I will finally keep my money for the things I really want.

Waiting for the Best Breakfast
