The Missing Shopping Bag
My name is Toby, and I am fourteen years old. Yesterday after school, my mother called me. She asked me to go to the local supermarket to buy a few things for dinner. I was happy to help, but when I arrived at the shop, I realised I didn’t have my reusable bag with me. It was still on my bed at home!
Inside the supermarket, I walked around and picked up everything my mother wanted. I got some red apples, a small bottle of milk, some bread, and a box of eggs. When I paid for the food, the shop assistant asked if I wanted to buy a plastic bag. I said no because I wanted to save money and help the environment.
However, walking home was very difficult. I had to carry all the small items in my two hands. The milk was cold, and the bread was difficult to hold. Suddenly, I dropped an apple on the pavement. A kind old man saw me and picked it up. He smiled and said I looked very funny with my hands full.
When I finally reached my front door, my arms were really tired. I carefully put the food on the kitchen table without breaking the eggs. I was very glad to be home. Now, I always keep a folded bag in my school backpack so I don’t have to carry things like that again!

A Lucky Trip to the Clothes Shop
My name is Jamie, and I am fourteen years old. Last Saturday, I went shopping in the town centre. I bought a fantastic green t-shirt to wear to my best friend’s birthday party. However, when I tried it on in my bedroom, it was much too small. I definitely needed a larger size.
I decided to take it back to the shop, but I had a big problem. I couldn’t find the receipt anywhere. I looked inside my shopping bag and under my bed. I remembered putting the small piece of paper into my jacket pocket, but it was not there. I felt extremely worried because shops normally ask for it.
On Monday afternoon, I walked back to the clothes shop. I found a friendly shop assistant and explained my situation. I told her that the t-shirt was too tight. She asked me for the receipt. I said that I lost it, but I showed her that the price label was still on the collar.
The assistant went to speak to the store manager. Five minutes later, she returned with a smile. Because the label was still on the clothes and it was completely clean, they allowed me to change it for a bigger one. I felt incredibly relieved, and the t-shirt looked perfect at the party!

A Great Supermarket Helper
My name is Leo, and I am twelve years old. Every Saturday morning, I go to the large supermarket in my town with my mother. I usually think shopping for food is quite boring. However, last weekend was a public holiday, so there were hundreds of people in the shop. It was extremely busy!
After an hour, our shopping trolley was full of food. We walked to the checkout, but there was a very long queue behind us. The cashier started to scan our apples, biscuits, and drinks very fast. Suddenly, a huge mountain of food was waiting at the end of the desk.
My mum needed to find her credit card in her handbag to pay. So, I decided to pack the shopping bags quickly. I carefully put the heavy items, like milk and potatoes, at the bottom. Then, I put the soft things, like bread and tomatoes, at the top. I worked as fast as I could because I didn’t want the customers behind us to wait.
