A Scary Walk in the Countryside
Mark
Last weekend, I was exploring the hills near my village with my grandfather. The weather was beautiful, and we were walking through a forest with lots of tall trees. Suddenly, a long green snake crossed the path right in front of us! I was so frightened that I couldn’t stop myself from screaming. I had my smartphone in my pocket, but I was too afraid to move and use it. The snake quickly disappeared into the grass. After that, we decided it was time to go home!
Sarah
I love walking alone in the countryside. One afternoon, I was looking at the ground, and my walking boot was only a few centimetres away from a dark brown snake! I didn’t shout because I didn’t want to make it angry. I just stayed completely quiet. Then, I turned around and ran away as fast as I could! I was so scared that I dropped my backpack and didn’t go back for it. I wanted to call for help, but my battery was completely empty!
Tom
I often go hiking with my best friend. We always check where we step so we don’t walk on any dangerous animals. But last week, the danger wasn’t on the ground! I looked up and noticed a thick yellow snake resting on a branch above my head. My friend started running, but I held onto my bag tightly and didn’t move. I actually thought the animal was quite beautiful, so I quickly got my camera out and saved the image before it climbed higher into the leaves.

Wild Bears: A Nature Documentary
Liam
I really loved this television programme about wild bears. The deep woods and wide rivers where the animals spend their days looked absolutely amazing on screen. The film lasted for two whole hours, but the time went quickly and I didn’t get bored at all. The songs they used while the bears were running through the trees were fantastic and really fit the action. However, there was one moment where a huge bear suddenly stood up and roared loudly at the camera. I was actually quite afraid when that happened!
Chloe
My father and I sat on the sofa to watch this nature programme last night because we both love animals. Before I saw the film, I thought these large animals only hunted for meat. I was surprised to find out that they also spend time finding sweet berries and catching small insects. My best friend told me before the show that wild bears can look very angry and scary, but I disagreed. I just thought the baby bears were very sweet and playful.
Ryan
This documentary was full of great information about how bears survive in the cold winter. However, it was on television for almost three hours. I think that was too much time, and I felt a bit tired waiting for it to finally end. The only other thing I didn’t like was the loud guitar playing in the background; it made it hard to hear the bears! Even though it wasn’t perfect, there were so many interesting facts that I will definitely use my tablet to view it again next weekend.

Learning to Ride
Jack
I always thought you just sat on a horse and it did everything for you. But I was so wrong! After an hour at the farm, my legs and arms were completely without energy. It is definitely hard work! I didn’t bring any special clothes, so the farmers lent me a strong plastic hat to keep me safe if I fell off. I wasn’t frightened at all, even though my horse was very fast. My mother wants to come and watch me ride next month, but I don’t know if I will be better by then. The man who showed us what to do was okay, but a bit quiet.
Lily
When we arrived at the farm, I saw how tall the horses were and I actually wanted to run away. I felt so worried! But once I was sitting on my horse, called Star, I was completely fine. My grandfather drove me to the farm and took lots of photos of me from behind the fence. He even bought me a beautiful riding jacket from the shop. Star was so good and walked exactly where I wanted him to go. I loved it so much that I have already paid to return in seven days!
Oscar
I had my first horse riding lesson yesterday and it was a lot of fun. I wasn’t tired at all afterwards! The woman teaching us was amazing. She explained everything simply and never got angry when we did things wrong. That was really helpful because my horse, Charlie, just wanted to eat the green grass. When I tried to make him walk forward, he just stopped or turned left! I definitely need to learn how to be a better rider. I want to try again soon, but I have school exams, so I can’t go back for a few weeks.
