Lily’s Healthy Dog Snacks
Fifteen-year-old Lily has a lovely pet dog named Max. She loves taking him for long walks and playing with him in the park. However, she noticed that the dog biscuits from the local supermarket were very expensive. Also, they had a lot of unhealthy sugar in them. She wanted Max to have better food.
To solve this problem, Lily decided to make her own dog biscuits at home. Instead of buying ready-made snacks, she looked on the internet for healthy recipes. She spent her pocket money on good ingredients, like fresh carrots, peanut butter, and special flour. Her mother helped her to turn on the oven and mix everything together.
Last weekend, Lily baked her very first biscuits. Before she gave one to Max, she was a little worried. What if he didn’t like the taste? But as soon as Max smelled the warm biscuits, he jumped up and ate three of them immediately! Her friend’s dog tried some too and loved them.
Now, Lily bakes a new box of healthy snacks for Max every Sunday. She doesn’t want to start a big business or sell them to shops. She just enjoys cooking and knows that she is giving her favourite pet the best food possible. Next week, she is going to try making a dog cake!

Sophie’s Pet Problem
Fourteen-year-old Sophie loves animals. Her favourite pet is her white rabbit, Snowball. Every day after school, Sophie spends time with him in the garden. Last month, she noticed that Snowball’s nails were getting very long. She knew this was a problem because long nails can make it painful for rabbits to hop and move around.
Sophie wanted to cut his nails, but she was very afraid of hurting him. She asked her parents for help, but they did not know what to do. So, Sophie decided to look for information online. She watched some helpful videos made by an animal doctor. She learned that she must only cut the white part of the nail, not the pink part, because the pink part hurts the rabbit.
The next day, Sophie used her pocket money to buy some special, small scissors from the pet shop. On Saturday morning, she asked her older brother to hold Snowball gently in a soft towel. Sophie was a bit nervous, but she carefully cut the ends of the nails. Snowball was very quiet and happily ate a carrot when they finished.
