Toby’s Morning Walks

Fourteen-year-old Toby has a very different morning routine from his friends. While most teenagers stay in bed until the last minute, Toby wakes up at six o’clock every day. He does this because he has a very active dog called Buster. Buster is a large dog with a lot of energy, and he needs a long walk before Toby goes to school.

Every morning, Toby puts on his warm coat and takes Buster to the large park near his house. At that time, the streets are completely empty. Toby’s classmates are usually still sleeping, but Toby is already throwing a ball for his dog. They spend about an hour running together on the wet grass.

Toby’s parents work very long hours, so they don’t have time to walk Buster in the morning. Toby doesn’t mind helping his family. He knows that if Buster doesn’t get enough exercise, he becomes bored. When Buster is bored, he sometimes chews Toby’s shoes or the sofa cushions. The morning walks keep the house safe!

Waking up early is sometimes difficult, especially in the winter when it is cold and dark. However, Toby really loves his morning routine. He enjoys the quiet streets and watching the sun come up. He actually thinks that the fresh air helps him to feel awake and ready for his school lessons.
