Ruby and the Hairy Problem
Fourteen-year-old Ruby loves animals. Last month, her family got a beautiful long-haired cat called Barnaby. Barnaby is very friendly, but there was a big problem in the house. He left his long white fur on the sofa, the beds, and the carpets. Ruby’s parents were quite angry because they had to clean the rooms every day.
Ruby wanted to help, so she decided to look for information on the internet. She watched some videos about looking after pets. She learned that long-haired cats need a lot of brushing. They do not need a bath in the water. Ruby went to the pet shop and used her own pocket money to buy a special brush.
The first time Ruby tried to brush Barnaby, it was not easy. The cat did not like the strange new object and tried to run away under the bed. Ruby understood that she had to be very quiet and gentle. She also started giving him a small fish snack after every brushing session.
Now, Ruby brushes Barnaby for ten minutes every evening before dinner. The new routine is working perfectly. There is no more fur on the furniture, and her parents are very happy. Leo’s Healthy Pet
Twelve-year-old Leo has a very special hobby. While his classmates spend their weekly pocket money on new video games, cinema tickets, or sweet snacks, Leo does something completely different. He uses all his cash to buy healthy, organic food for his favourite pet guinea pig, Coco.
Last year, Leo read an interesting book about caring for small pets. He learned that many supermarket vegetables have chemicals on them, which can make small animals sick. The book explained that natural, organic food is much safer and helps guinea pigs live a longer life. After reading this, Leo decided to change Coco’s diet immediately.
Every Saturday morning, Leo wakes up early and walks to the local farmer’s market in his town. He carefully chooses the best organic carrots, apples, and green spinach. These vegetables are quite expensive compared to normal ones, so Leo has to save his pocket money carefully during the week. He doesn’t mind at all, because seeing Coco happy is more important to him than buying toys.
