Leo’s Amazing Summer Camp
Fourteen-year-old Leo is from Italy. Last month, he traveled to the UK for a special two-week summer camp. The camp was for teenagers who wanted to study English and play sports. Before the trip, Leo felt quite nervous. His English wasn’t very good, and he didn’t know anyone there.
However, Leo soon started to enjoy himself. Every morning, the teenagers had English lessons. At his school in Italy, Leo sometimes felt bored during language classes. But at the camp, the teachers were very funny. The students played vocabulary games and worked together on interesting projects. Leo quickly learned a lot of new words.
In the afternoons, it was time for sports. The teenagers could choose what they wanted to do. Leo decided to play tennis and basketball. He was already quite good at basketball, so he helped the other players. During a fantastic match on Thursday, he met a boy from Spain called Tomas, and they soon became best friends.
The two weeks finished very quickly. On the last day, Leo felt a little sad because he had to say goodbye to everybody. He exchanged phone numbers with Tomas and the other teenagers. A Brilliant Day with the Dinosaurs
My name is Sam and I am fourteen years old. Yesterday, my science teacher, Mr Davis, took our class on a school trip to the city’s Natural History Museum. Usually, I think museums are quite boring because you just look at old things and read long texts. However, this trip was completely different and I had a brilliant time.
First, we visited the dinosaur exhibition on the ground floor. It was amazing! My best friend, Leo, loves dinosaurs and he spent an hour taking photos of the bones with his phone. The most exciting part for me was seeing the T-Rex skeleton. It was much bigger than I expected, and its teeth looked very dangerous.
After that, we went upstairs to the insect room. I don’t really like bugs, so I wasn’t excited at all. But the museum guide organized a fun competition for us. We had to find large plastic butterflies hidden around the room. I worked fast and found five of them, so the guide gave me a free poster!
Before catching the bus home, we stopped at the museum shop and café. My classmates bought expensive snacks and T-shirts. I didn’t want to spend all my pocket money on food, so I just bought a small book about dinosaurs for my little brother. It was a fantastic day, and now I want to visit the museum again with my family!

A Real Language Lesson
My name is Sofia, and I am fifteen years old. I love learning languages, especially Spanish. I always get good marks in my Spanish classes at school. However, I wanted to practice speaking with real people. Because of this, my parents booked a holiday to Madrid for two weeks in July.
When we arrived at the airport in Spain, I felt very nervous. My dad asked me to speak to the taxi driver. I remembered my lessons and slowly gave him the address of our hotel. The driver smiled and said my Spanish was very good. I was so happy that he understood me!
The next day, we went to a busy market to buy some lunch. My mom wanted to buy some fresh fruit and cheese. I talked to the woman at the shop and asked for the prices. She spoke very fast, but I listened carefully. In the end, I paid for the food without any help from my parents.
By the end of the holiday, talking to people in shops and restaurants was easy. I felt much more confident. My Spanish improved a lot because I used it every single day. Next year, I am going to start learning French. I hope I can visit Paris soon to practice!
