David’s London Debate Trip

Fifteen-year-old David loves discussing important topics with his classmates. Last month, his favorite teacher invited him to join the new school debate club. David immediately said yes. This weekend, his school team is traveling to a big competition in London. David is extremely excited because he loves exploring new cities and learning at the same time.

On Friday morning, the students took an early train to the capital. During the journey, David and his friends didn’t look out of the window at the beautiful countryside. Instead, they spent three hours reading their notes and practising what they wanted to say. David’s classmate, Emma, felt quite nervous about the competition, but David talked to her and helped her to stay calm.

The event happened in a beautiful, historic university building. There were hundreds of smart teenagers from many different schools there. When it was David’s turn, he stood up and spoke about protecting the environment. He remembered all his information and spoke very clearly to the room. Surprisingly, he wasn’t afraid at all!

At the end of the day, David’s team didn’t win the golden cup, but they got the third prize. Their teacher was incredibly proud of their hard work. Elena’s School Blog

Last September, I left my hometown in Spain to spend three months at a school in England. I lived with a friendly family near London. Before I arrived, I felt quite worried. I didn’t know if I could understand the teachers or make new friends because my English wasn’t perfect.

On my first day, I noticed the biggest change. In Spain, I always wear my own clothes to school, but in England, everyone has to wear a blue uniform. Also, the school day is much longer here. We finish at four o’clock in the afternoon, which made me feel very tired during the first week.

The lessons are also different from my school at home. In Spain, we usually listen to the teacher and write in our notebooks. But in my English class, we use laptops every day and work in groups to make projects. It was hard at first, but now I think it is a great way to learn.

My time here is ending, and I am flying back to Spain next Friday. I am excited to see my family and old classmates again, but I will be sad to say goodbye to my English friends. This journey

has changed me, and I feel much more independent now.
