My International Summer Camp
My name is Leo, and I am fourteen years old. Last month, I went to an international summer camp in Switzerland. When my parents left me at the airport, I felt very nervous. I didn’t know anyone, and I was worried that my English wasn’t good enough to talk to the other teenagers.
When I arrived at the camp, a teacher showed me my bedroom. Two other boys were already there. Mateo was from Italy, and Kenji was from Japan. At first, the room was very quiet. But then, Kenji took out a board game. We started playing and laughing, and I quickly forgot to be scared.
Every day, we did different activities together. My favourite part was when we went climbing in the mountains. We had to help each other find the safest paths. We talked a lot, and I learned that everyone makes mistakes when they speak English. We just wanted to understand each other.
On the last day of camp, it was very hard to say goodbye. Mateo, Kenji, and I are now best friends. We have a video call every Sunday evening to talk about our week. Before the camp, I was afraid of travelling alone, but now I can’t wait to visit my new friends in their countries!

Sam’s Historic Photography Course
Fifteen-year-old Sam usually spends his summer holidays playing video games. However, this year, his parents took him to Hoi An, a beautiful old city in Vietnam. Sam loves taking pictures, so he decided to join a special photography course for teenagers there.
On the first day, the class started very early. Their teacher, Mrs Green, told them to wake up at 5:00 a.m. She explained that the morning sun gives the best light for photos. Sam felt extremely tired, but he enjoyed walking around the quiet, narrow streets and looking at the historic yellow buildings.
Most of the students in the class carried large, heavy cameras. Sam only had a tiny pocket camera that he got for his birthday. At first, he felt a bit worried about his equipment. By the end of the week, everyone had to choose their favourite picture for a small class show. Sam chose a photo of an old bridge over the river. To his surprise, his picture won first prize! Sam felt incredibly proud. He cannot wait to return home and show his amazing photos to all his friends.

Lucas’s British Adventure
Fifteen-year-old Lucas is from Brazil. Last month, he travelled to the UK to stay with a host family in Oxford. Lucas didn’t want to stay in a hotel and just visit museums. He really wanted to experience normal British daily life and improve his English.
On his first morning, he had a big surprise. Lucas thought British people only ate fish and chips. However, Mrs. Smith made a large traditional breakfast with eggs, sausages, and beans. Lucas loved it! Later in the week, he even helped Mr. Smith cook a popular meal called ‘toad in the hole’, which is sausages in batter.
During the week, Lucas went to a local high school with his host brother, Tom. School in the UK was quite different from his school in Brazil. All the students had to wear smart uniforms, which Lucas actually liked. In the afternoon, they didn’t play football. Instead, Tom taught Lucas how to play rugby.
