Leo’s Weather Campaign

Fourteen-year-old Leo lives in a small town. Last winter, there was a very bad storm with strong winds and heavy rain. Leo noticed that many of his neighbours were frightened because they didn’t know what to do. Leo wanted to help his town, so he decided to start a campaign to teach people about extreme weather.

First, Leo wrote a short booklet. He wanted to make sure all the information was right, so he showed it to his geography teacher, Mrs. Higgins. She thought it was a fantastic idea and helped him add some important details. After that, Leo used the school computer to print one hundred copies of his little book.

On Saturday morning, Leo and his two best friends went to the town square. They gave the booklets to people who were doing their shopping. Everyone was very interested. An old man took one and smiled. He told the teenagers that the book was extremely useful for him because he never used the internet to find information.

Now, people in the town feel much safer. They know exactly where to go and what to prepare when a storm comes. Leo is incredibly proud of his hard work. Next month, he is going to visit the local primary school. He hopes to speak to the younger children and teach them about staying safe, too.

A Strange Winter for Nature

Fifteen-year-old Mia loves the winter. Usually, the months of December and January are very cold in her town, and she enjoys playing in the snow. However, this year is completely different. The weather is unusually warm, and there is no snow at all. Mia often walks in the park, and she is noticing some strange things.

First, Mia looked at the plants in her garden. Normally, the trees have no leaves during winter. But this February, because the sun was so hot, little green leaves started to grow. She also saw some beautiful pink flowers. These flowers usually appear in April, not in the middle of winter!
