Leo’s Climate Game
Sixteen-year-old Leo loves reading about the environment, but his friends do not. When he tries to talk about climate change, they often say the subject is boring or too sad. Leo wanted his classmates to learn about the planet, but he knew he had to make it fun.
Last month, he got a great idea and decided to organise a ‘Climate Quiz’ night at his house. He spent three weeks looking for interesting information online. He made sure the questions were not too difficult. Then, he sent messages to ten of his friends and invited them over for a Friday evening.
When Friday arrived, Leo cooked some pizzas and made lots of snacks. His friends made teams of two and the game began. The living room became very noisy because everyone wanted to win! Many of the teenagers were amazed by the facts they learned during the game.

Leo’s Important Poem
Twelve-year-old Leo loves spending his free time outside. He enjoys walking in the forest near his home in every type of weather. Last week, his English teacher gave the class some interesting homework. She asked the students to write a short poem about the natural world.
At first, Leo didn’t know what to write. Then, he decided to describe the four seasons. He started with spring and summer. He wrote about beautiful green trees and warm, sunny beach days. But Leo also remembered that last summer was too hot, and the rivers were very low. So, he included these problems in his writing.
Next, Leo wrote about autumn and winter. He described the red leaves falling and the fun of playing in the snow. At the bottom of the page, he added a very important message. He explained that we must look after the Earth. If we don’t, our beautiful seasons will change forever and we won’t see snow again.
On Friday, Leo read his poem aloud to his classmates. The room was very quiet. When he finished, everyone clapped loudly. His teacher was extremely pleased and put his work on the school wall. Leo felt incredibly proud because his words made his friends think about saving the planet.

Lucas’s Plan for a Cooler City
Fourteen-year-old Lucas lives in a large city. Last summer, the weather was extremely hot. In his geography class, Lucas learned why. He discovered that cities are much hotter than the countryside because of all the dark roads and tall buildings. His teacher explained that planting trees could easily change this.
Lucas wanted to share this important message with people in his town. He is very good at using computers, so he decided to design an infographic. This is a special picture that uses short texts and numbers to explain an idea. His design showed how the leaves of trees stop the sun and make the air cooler.
When it was finished, Lucas printed his infographic. He put copies on the walls of his school and the local library. For a few days, nobody looked at them. But then, a journalist from a local newspaper saw his picture at the library. She loved the idea and wrote an article about Lucas.
After reading the newspaper, people from the city council called Lucas. They promised to plant one hundred new trees in the city centre before next summer. Lucas is delighted that his project worked so well. Next month, he is going to create another picture to teach people about saving water.
