Leo’s Green Board
Leo, a 16-year-old student, always worried about the environment. Every day at school, he saw students throwing away plastic and leaving lights on. He wanted to do something to help. One day, he had a great idea. He decided to create a space where students could share ideas about helping the planet.
He asked his science teacher if he could put a big “Green Tips” board in the school hall. The teacher agreed immediately. That weekend, Leo found a large piece of wood in his garage and painted it bright green. On Monday morning, he carried it into the school hall and wrote the first message: “Always bring your own water bottle!”
For the first two days, the board was completely empty. Leo felt quite sad and thought that his schoolmates didn’t care. He almost took the board down. But on Wednesday, his friend Sam added a note about walking to school. Soon after that, more and more teenagers started putting their own ideas on the board.
By the end of the week, there was no space left on the wood! There were notes about recycling clothes and picking up rubbish. Even the headteacher added a tip about turning off computers. Leo felt incredibly proud of his project. He learned that everyone wants to help, but sometimes they just need a little push. Next month, he is going to start a school environment club.

Leo is twelve years old, and he loves his school. But there was one thing he didn’t like. Every day, the school cafeteria used hundreds of paper plates for lunch. After the students finished eating, they threw the plates in the bin. Leo felt terrible because this was very bad for the environment. He wanted to change this.
One morning, Leo went to see the head teacher, Mrs Clark. He asked her to buy real plates for the cafeteria. Mrs Clark thought it was a good idea, but she was worried. “Real plates are quite expensive,” she said. “Also, the cooks are very busy. They don’t have time to wash them.” Leo told her not to worry because he had a plan.
Leo spoke to his classmates about the problem. Together, they made big posters and put them on the walls. The posters asked students to help wash the dishes after lunch. Leo thought maybe ten people would help. However, by the end of the week, more than fifty students wrote their names on his list!

Oliver’s Green Homes Project
Fifteen-year-old Oliver often visits his grandmother at the weekends. Last winter, he noticed that her house was very cold, but her electricity bills were high. He talked to her and found out that many older people in his town didn’t know how to save energy or make their homes eco-friendly. Oliver wanted to change this.
He decided to start a volunteer group at his school called “Green Homes”. He made some posters and asked his classmates to join him. At first, only his best friend wanted to help. However, after the teachers talked about Oliver’s idea in class, ten more students joined the group.
Now, the teenagers visit older people every Saturday morning. They do simple but important jobs. They change old light bulbs, put special tape on windows to keep the cold air out, and show them how to recycle plastic and paper correctly. The old people love talking to the teenagers, too.
