Designing Video Thumbnails

Adam

Making the perfect thumbnail takes me hours! I never just finish in five minutes. I am terrible at drawing with a pen, so I never use my own art. Instead, I always take a funny photograph of myself. People love seeing my smile before they click the video! I also think it is really useful to add huge text across the screen. If the letters are large, everyone can read the topic easily on their mobile phones. I don’t use light colours; I usually put white writing on a black background to make it look cool.

Bella

For my gaming channel, I don’t use photos of my face because I want people to focus on the game. Also, I never put any words on the screen because it makes the picture look too busy. I prefer to paint all the images myself. I use computer brushes on my tablet to create beautiful characters. Yesterday, I looked at a film I uploaded last year. Nobody was watching it, so I designed a brand new cover for it. Instantly, more people clicked on it! I am planning to study some internet lessons soon to improve my skills.

Carlos

When I began my cooking channel, my thumbnails were quite boring. So, I viewed lots of short guides on the web to learn how to make them better. Now, my secret is using lots of yellow and light red! Those strong colours really catch someone’s eye when they are looking at their phones. I never go back and fix my old video covers; I only focus on my new projects. Some creators spend a whole evening on their pictures, but I am very fast. It only takes me a couple of minutes to get everything ready to upload!
