Controlling the Smart Home

Jake

I installed a smart home app last month. It was actually very easy to learn how to use it right from the first day! I didn’t expect to be able to connect so many different pieces of equipment to just one program. It’s amazing. I am quite a careless person, and I often go to work without closing the main entrance safely. Now, I just tap my screen to check it. Also, on cold mornings, I don’t have to get up to turn the heating on. I just stay under the blankets and use my phone!

Tara

I only have a few smart machines in my house, but the app is wonderful. I always remember to lock my front door, but I hate coming home in the dark. With this software, I can make the hall bright while I am still walking up the street. It makes me feel much safer. The best thing is that my electricity costs are much lower now. I can check if anything is still turned on when I am out. Tomorrow, I’m going to buy a smart coffee maker so I can make drinks from my bed!

Felix

Controlling everything from one place is a great idea. However, when I first downloaded the software, I couldn’t understand the menus at all. It took me a week to learn what the buttons did. Now, I enjoy using it to change the colors of my lamps when I am sitting in the living room. Sadly, the program often crashes and stops working because my smartphone is nearly five years old. It is just too slow. I have to spend some money on a modern mobile soon so I can use the app without any problems.

Making Space on Our Devices

Jake

I use my smartphone for taking pictures of my friends and family. Because video and image files are very large, my phone quickly becomes full. To fix this, I connect my mobile to my laptop and copy everything there. I prefer to save my images on my computer instead of the web, so I don’t spend any cash on it. I also check my downloaded software. If there is a racing or puzzle app I haven’t opened in a long time, I just throw it in the bin. I never touch my school folders, however, because I am careful with my homework.

Aisha

My brother usually tells me to organise my tablet, but I prefer to do it myself. I have a strict plan: I check my files twelve times a year, usually at the end of the month. It always takes a long time because I want to keep everything. Saying goodbye to old digital memories is really tough for me! I don’t like deleting my apps, either. Because my device was completely full last week, I decided to give some of my pocket money to a cloud company. Now, they hold my extra videos safely online.

Finn

I am terrible at keeping my laptop tidy. Last semester, my screen said I had no space left. I started removing old text files very fast to make room. Sadly, I accidentally threw away a history project that I had to give to my teacher the next morning! It was a disaster. Now, my older sister sits next to me and tells me exactly what to keep and what to put in the digital bin. She is much better at it than I am. She often tells me to delete photos, but I love looking at them on my screen.
