Keeping Our Devices Safe
Mark
Last year, I ignored the warning messages on my laptop. Because of that, a bad program got inside and ruined my school project. I had to buy a new machine! Now, whenever there is a security download, I call my grandfather. He knows a lot about technology and shows me exactly what to click to protect my device. He always tells me to save my photos first, but I am never worried about losing them because they are already safe on the internet. I just want to keep the bad programs out!
Nina
I used to hate getting new software for my smartphone. I was quite scared that installing it would make all my holiday images disappear forever! However, a friend explained that these downloads stop strangers from looking at my private messages. Now, I have turned on a special setting that gets the files while I am sleeping. When I wake up, the phone is already safe, and I didn’t have to touch a single button. The phone doesn’t really operate any faster, but I feel much better knowing my information is completely secure.
Omar
I often do my homework in busy coffee shops. The internet there is free, but anyone can use it, which is not very safe. That is why I always make sure my tablet has the newest security system. Before I press download, I always spend a few minutes reading the information page to understand exactly what will be different. My older sister never bothers to update her devices! I tell her she should, because as soon as the installation is finished, my tablet usually opens my games and web pages much more rapidly.

Digital Drawing Pens
Leo
I really enjoy using my new digital pen. It feels exactly like a real pencil. I don’t use it for my homework. Instead, I love going to the park to paint trees and little birds on my tablet. Yesterday, I was very sad because I lost it. I looked under my bed and finally discovered it inside my backpack! The pen is very light and comfortable. It doesn’t make any loud sounds when I use it, which is great because I like quiet places.
Mia
For my fourteenth birthday, my dad gave me a brilliant drawing pen. I didn’t spend any of my own money! I usually draw faces and people, not the natural world. But mostly, I use the pen during my lessons. It is perfect for writing down information when my science teacher is speaking. My favourite thing is how it feels on the glass. When I push down, it makes a little scratching sound, exactly like writing in a real notebook. Hearing that is great!
Sam
I wanted a digital pen for months, so I saved my pocket money and bought this one myself. I am glad it wasn’t a present, because I chose exactly the type I wanted. It writes beautifully, but my hand gets tired after ten minutes. It is definitely not a light object to hold! The screen feels like normal paper, and it is totally silent. I always keep it safe in a special box on my desk, so I will never lose it.

Projecting Movies from a Phone
Lucas
I recently got a mini projector. It was on sale at the supermarket, so it didn’t cost much cash! I just connect my mobile, point it at the flat wall in my living room, and the picture is huge. I don’t use it for gaming, just for cinema nights. The video quality is fantastic, but the audio wasn’t big enough. I couldn’t hear the actors speaking very well! Because of this, I use a separate Bluetooth speaker now. It’s a brilliant device, and it fits easily into my jacket pocket when I go to my friend’s house.
Ruby
My parents gave me a projector for my birthday. I love it, but the paint in my room has lots of dark flowers on it. The movies looked terrible on it, so I bought a plain white sheet to hang up instead. Now the videos look amazing! The speakers inside are really fantastic, which is great. It’s quite a heavy machine, so it stays upstairs. However, my younger sister often comes in to borrow it. We link her smartphone to it and watch cartoons together on the big screen.
Finn
I am the only person in my family who uses our mini projector. I don’t really watch many movies on it. Instead, I link my mobile phone and play racing matches! The cars look massive on the wall, and it feels like I am actually driving. During the summer, my favourite thing to do is take the device into the garden. I point it at the side of the house and sit on the grass under the night sky. It’s much better than sitting indoors. The only bad thing is that I paid a lot of money for it!
